Re: Remembering Max Mark,he looks like a lovely dog and you obviously loved him dearly,I know he will have had a brilliant life with you. I've not gone through this first hand .....don't think I'll manage it,I'm crying reading your post....but I also know from being around close people that have been in the painful situation,it is the last kindness and act of love that you can do for your four legged companion, they trust us to do the best for them.i hope I will be as brave as you when the time comes and like you,no matter how painful it will be for me,I will always put dexters well being first which is what you did for Max. Thanks for your story Best wishes Angela x
Re: Remembering Max Thanks so much, I felt a few pangs typing it, just looking at the photos again. Ughh it's bloody tough, I don't know what can ease something like this. For us, we couldn't stop crying every time we saw the empty bed, only the distraction of a new dog helped. Some reservation in deciding to post actually, there are quite a few more recent pets who have passed away in this section. As I said, we have a new dog. I don't want to discourage any thoughts or condolences for people who could use some words of support.

[/quote] I think you've said it quite perfectly there - the new dog is the distraction that helps you move forward, never a 'replacement'. You don't realise quite what a huge space a dog occupies in your home until suddenly it's empty. And as to reservations about posting... yep, there are more recent pets who have passed away in this section, but it isn't just about recent losses - it's about sharing memories of all those dogs who shared our lives, and you shared your memories of Max beautifully. Re: Remembering Max One of the best things I ever read was a thank you note to the vet I used to work for. It said that they were getting another pup "we are not replacing Flick in our heart, just creating a new space". Max looked the most beautiful dog, from a dear little pup to that most adorable expression in the second photo. All of us who have had loved and lost dogs will know the heartbreak of their deaths, but oh the joy they gave us when they lived.
Re: Remembering Max Max looks like a wise and beautiful boy. It's a terrible trauma to lose them. I'll never get over losing our boy, Nicolae, last year (8th December). I still can't really believe that he's gone, and that I'll never see him again. Just can't believe it. But you don't ever want to get over it really. They are too important. Like you, we needed another dog to help us manage. We got Obi 2 weeks after we lost our beloved boy, to help us cope, which he has done and we love him dearly. Posts like yours are important. Helps us to remember how lucky we are to share love with a dog.
Re: Remembering Max :'( Max was a very handsome boy....... Lovely to remember. Like Angela, can't imagine how I would cope.

This forum is wonderful for that. Your boy looks just lovely. I'm so glad he had a long and happy life with you, full of fun and love.
Re: Remembering Max You will never forget Max. Reuben will make his own space in your life - not displace Max, but will bring his own joy and liveliness to share with you.
