Help! Tom our nearly six month choc lab has now chewed two remotes just bought a new set. Yesterday fast asleep on floor appeared conked out went to loo returned within minutes had got remote and chomped to destruction. We keep out of reach but Tom's reach is getting higher and higher he can now reach dining room table and most kitchen tops. Is crated when we are out and happy and content with this, loves Kong's has at least three a day but minor things like knocks on the door phone calls and mischief takes over any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks x

    Hello there

You need to keep remote controls out of reach - whatever it takes, or however high you need the shelf. This is because they contain batteries. My boy recently nicked and chewed batteries - this is seriously dangerous and they can cause terrible burns. We got away with it, with no long term damage, but that's not always the case at all.

My boy was a nightmare for nicking stuff until about 16 months, then it slowed, and now at about 18 months he is not so bad. But I'll still give it another few months until I take the log basket down from the top of the TV.

Some dogs are just like this - they nick and chew stuff. Keep dangerous stuff out of reach (I have baby cupboard locks), take stuff off them with as least fuss as possible (train a "give it to me" cue), and hope they grow out of it...

    Best of luck with it.

Thanks we have been worried about the batteries etc and his persistence has been difficult to manage. We have everything as high as we can but are running out of safe space. Will continue to be vigilant. x
