    Need some more help :(

Since Brody was 8 weeks old he has been in our bedroom in a crate. First few days we had howling but perservance and it soon subsided. We recently came back from a two week family holiday from Scotland and whilst there we started to have his crate in a different room. Again, first few days the howling returned but quiet again.

Since our holiday back from Scotland we have moved him out of bedroom to the downstairs.

I normally walk him a bout 5.30 for 20mins or so, but when my alarm goes off at 5am or when there is movement upstairs he starts howling. I don't want to reinforce going to get him but due to time to get ready for work, I need to walk him.

    Presuming either ignore like before?

As always, any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Stu

Some more thought on this is we have introduced a morning walk and feeding in the morning. Now wondering if the howling is the "I want my walk and food" howl. As he is left for a few hours each morning, morning and evenings are the only time for a decent a walk.

I think he's probably trying it on Stu when he can hear you moving around....my dog used to do it when he heard the golf buggies start to work on the golf course at the end of the garden...he associated that with me coming down to walk and feed him....if I was tardy in his opinion he'd start whining....
I just ignored him ,if he wasn't drawing breath I'd creep down the stairs and wait until there was finally break in it ,even if it was only for a couple of seconds and go in and see him then.It took a few days for him to get it but it worked.
Of course now he sleeps in bed with us so he just stands on my head if my timekeeping isn't to his liking

Ha ha... That's why he is never allowed upstairs! I think the same and he is trying it on. This morning I waited until it subsided and then went in and walked. Think I will try the same over the next few days.

Girlfriend is suggesting to not do a morning walk to break up the association but not sure who would be more gutted as love my morning walks with him!

I'd persevere if it's time you enjoy with him because with a bit of determination and putting up with it for a little while you will sort it.
Dexter wasn't allowed upstairs for 18 months............just sayin'
