Hi There, brand new here, with my Bella. We brought Bella home 3 weeks ago, she is chocolate darling and as of yesterday was 10 weeks old. When we picked her up we were told her birthday, that she was wormed and had her first shot the week before. when I asked about her food and feeding schedule was told she and her siblings were on free choice Puppy Chow. I'm not a fanatic, but know enough to know Puppy Chow is full of all kinds of fillers, and that my little miss would need to transition over to higher quality food. When he went to get her some "food to go", they were out of food ?!?!?!? Anyway, I said no worries we'll transition her over. Their yard was mostly picked up, but long grass and the puppy piles I saw were a bit loose. Both mom and dad and an older sibling were on site and all were happy, shiny, healthy looking. We paid their fee and took our sweet Bella home with us. It was a long ride home for her (over 5 hours) but she did great on the trip after the initial and predictable panic attack. got her home, gave her some food and had some play time. All was well and off to bed we went. Up every 3 hours or so through the night...but all in all it was fine. She had a bit of loose stool, but considering the huge drastic change in her life we weren't concerned. She went to work with my hubby and had a pretty good day. Home in the evening with me and another night of up every few hours. Each night that week she did a bit better, but her poo was still pretty soft. I wormed her again for good measure and hoped that by the next weekend we would have better poo and some longer sleeps. She was happy and starting to shine, playful, ate well, but the typical whoops accidents throughout the week were challenging. At 10 days, we figured she should have sorted out the poo issue, and maybe she was dribbling her pee a bit more than necessary. Talked to a basset breeder friend, and decided to see if adding some pumpkin would help her poo, and some ACV in her water for the pee. She's not my first puppy - far from it, and while I'm not an expert...I was hoping to avoid an expensive trip to the vet if I could. She was not off in any other way - cool nose, happy and energetic, no painful tummy and no pale gums. Pumpkin helped her poo quickly, but the pee issue didn't get any better. Over the weekend while playing with her and giving tummy rubs, I noticed some vaginal discharge. I told my hubby it's time to make her an appointment. So we went to see Dr. Nancy today. Exam, urine sample, wormer again, booster vaccination, and overall wellness check....and now we have 14 days of clavamox for her, some probiotics, some rhymadil for a few days, and we were on our way. She had lots of visible crystals in her urine, plus the white blood cells. Hopefully this will turn her around quickly and get her going in the right direction. She's such a happy and smart little thing...I hate to see her with anything less than 100% perfect. Hopefully this will help both the pee and poo issue and get her headed firmly in the right direction. And fingers crossed we'll make some progress in the sleeping through the night thing too.... :-[
Re: Rocky Starts Hi and welcome!!!! A urinary tract infection is not that unusual in a pup....I hope that the medication you have now will see her on the right track very quickly. I hope she starts sleeping longer hours as well. She sounds like a sweetie.
Re: Rocky Starts Glad Bella is starting to recover very loose stools are common in a pup, but agree that the food the breeder gave wasn't the best.
Re: Rocky Starts Hello from 14 month old Molly and me. She had a urine infection as a young pup, the the anti biotics soon got on top of that. Since then she has been a bundle of health energy.
Re: Rocky Starts Hello and welcome from me and my dogs . What a rocky start your little one has had , her first home didn't give the impression of being the very best re the food and uncollected poo, but never mind, she has you to care for her now and hopefully she will be loads better soon
Re: Rocky Starts Welcome! It sounds as if you know what you're doing and will give little Bella the best possible home. I look forward to hearing more about her, and seeing some pictures!
Re: Rocky Starts Ah I'm sure everything will settle down now she's under your care, welcome from Dexter and I , a 2 year old yellow boy x
Re: Rocky Starts Welcome to you and Bella. I hope the meds sort her out and you can get her tummy settled on better food. Would love to see a photo of her
Re: Rocky Starts Thanks Everyone!!! Well less than 24 hours on meds, and already she doesn't seem to be straining/dribbling anymore. I hope things continue to improve for her... As requested....here's Bella
Re: Rocky Starts :-[ thanks.... <giggle> we think so too....now if she'll just get to feeling 100% we'll be perfect!
Re: Rocky Starts Hello there, what a sweet puppy! Glad you took her to the vet; hopefully she is on the mend now.
