Hi wondered if anyone could shed any light on this. It seems that when we take Dexter, our 6 month old lab, out out for some off leash action where he gets to run around fast and get out of breath, he then has a rather runny/loose light brown poo quite soon afterwards. At all other times they are solid and dark brown. We have been feeding him three times a day since his arrival two weeks ago as he had loose stools from the pedigree kibble he was on. Now he is on James Wellbeloved which has led to much better poos (and less flatulence!). We are going to change to two meals a day. Will this help in the issue mentioned above as he won't have so much in his system when it come to his early evening run about? Could the stress on the body of working at a higher rate of intensity be the cause of this digestive problem?
Re: Runny poo post exercise Hi there..... In our case,I always feed Dexter after his 2 main excercises....this was because in the early days of owning him I thought he will be hungry and pay more attention to training treats ( have now learned my boy would pay attention to training treats at any time!) Despite having a dicky tummy he poos at he same time twice a day....always about 15 mins into the lead bit of his walk so I don't witness any post excercise poos myself...however my friends spaniel and another friends dog always do a loose poo after they have been having an off lead run.....so I think in large it is down to excitement x
Re: Runny poo post exercise I have found with Penny that whenever we have an off lead walk she feels like she MUST have a poo, regardless of whether she needs to go or not, resulting in kind of forcing it out and it being somewhat loose ??? It's possible it's just excitement. If it was caused by over feeding I would expect to see a well formed poo topped by a runny bit, not just totally runny, and with every poo not just one. At six months old there's not really any need for 3 meals a day unless you feel he is underweight. So see how he goes when you do cut him back to two.

I think his excitement gets the better of him, hopefully the food timings will help him out. Thanks guys
Re: Runny poo post exercise Still a bit concerned about this - Dexter has just done 3 soft/runny poos on his morning walk (after sprinting after lots of tennis balls) however he had already done one in the garden this morning and I left it 1.5 hours after his breakfast before walking him. Going to try him on boiled chicken and rice tonight and a smaller portion than his normal dinner (as he is now on 2 meals, he has his larger meal in the evening, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions). He does seem to be pooing a lot and mostly soft ones. Any further advice much appreciated! Thanks Francesca
Re: Runny poo post exercise Sam has firm poo unless he is doing really hard exercise/training, and then it is sometimes softer and lighter coloured too , I just put it down to a release if adrenalin in the system due to massive excitement building up
Re: Runny poo post exercise Mine always have soft poo with the excitement of exercise, usually solid in the morning and soft in the afternoon! I fed one of my dogs on JWB and found it didn't suit her at all, very soft poo all the time, so I changed it.
Re: Runny poo post exercise Hmmm, I was thinking it might just be the excitement factor, but he's just deposited another very runny, soft one in the garden with no excitement/running around involved, so not sure what to do. Hope it's not the food as we have 3 big bags of it! Stacia, what did you change your dog on to if JWB didn't suit?
Re: Runny poo post exercise At that time I changed it to Skinners Lamb and Rice. The Lab I have now I feed on Fromm Gold.
