A few weeks ago I commented that Willow's skin was slightly dry - I could only see it where her hair is still short on her tummy from being spayed - and how I was giving her a bit of olive oil to help it. I think it was Lochan that mentioned salmon oil, saying it was far better for dermatological health than olive oil. I just wanted to say thank you. It worked so quickly! I bought it when I was in the UK and started her on it last Monday. By Thursday, there was no sign of flakiness at all. Brilliant stuff, and they're now both getting a few squirts in their breakfasts every day.

Now, if only it could stop all the shedding....

If I could stop the shedding I would be a multi-millionaire by now.....

Yes - my two have a squidge of salmon oil on each meal - they have lovely shiny fur and supple skin :)

Do you buy the oil in a bottle? Lady loves salmon oil (obviously) but she usually only gets it on the odd occasion we open a tin.

We changed Mira on to a salmon based food in her first year as she was a bit dandruffy. It did seem to clear up very soon after the changeover, but whether it was the salmon is impossible to know. When we buy salmon for ourselves I like to get a whole one and the skin and bones left after filleting get added to her meals over the following week or so. (I do have to mop up the puddle of drool on the floor after doing that job though!)
People often comment on her glossy coat and I do think the salmon oil contributes to that.

I use the Fish4Dogs version, comes in a 3l wine box type container and lasts the girls ages.

Does the salmon oil that comes in the bottle have a fishy smell? My husband and I are both vegetarian so we're not keen on having a fishy smell after every meal! Snowie gets raw food but it doesn't have a lingering smell (except the dirty green tripe!). I give Snowie salmon oil in capsules but I am sure that all that processing to get it into a capsule must certainly destroy some of the nutrients so I'd prefer giving him the salmon oil from a bottle. Although I am yet to find it in a bottle, I've only ever seen it in capsule form in any case.

Weirdly, a review on Zooplus says that it smells fishy, but I don't smell anything at all when I pump it onto their food. The pump is handy because it means there is no drippage etc, which I guess you could get from a regular bottle, and then get it on your hands which you might smell?

I don't use as much as they say - the recommended dosage is one and a half pumps per 5kg of bodyweight, but I give just three pumps daily.

The Fish4Dogs one has a wine box type dispenser so it's very easy to pour on their food. I've never noticed a smell from it, possibly because it's gobbled up so fast....
