Stupid question, but now that I've got Lady swimming in the sea, is it ok to just let her dry off or do I need to rinse off her coat later with fresh water?

I always rinse off after salt water - I didn't recently at the campsite, and Charlie had sore eyes. So I ended up washing his face etc.

I think someone asked the question recently and some people rinse, some don't.

I never have David, but I do clean their faces , mainly to get rid of sand .

I usually rinse but not with any great urgency and likewise make sure his face is free of sand and gritty salt.

Thanks. Yes I did clean her face up, but just with a towel. I'll give it a rinse next time.

Having said that I don't rinse them off after a dip in the sea , they usually swim in the river most days so they sort of do rinse themselves off I suppose ::)

Albert got very dry skin from too much sea swimming, even with a rinse. So I stopped the sea and changed to a lake instead. He's now 7 months and his skin is much improved, and he seems to prefer the lake too. We still use the beach 3 or 4 times a week but just for walking, playing and the odd paddle.

We gave Holly a bath in fresh water when she got home after yesterday's swim. It was just to get the salt and sand out of her coat.

I've never rinsed and not had any problems. Mira's coat seems to thrive on regular sea swimming and is even softer and glossier than usual afterwards. It also seems to cure occasional mild dandruff :)

I don't know if there is any truth in this but I was told , many years ago , that fleas wont stay on a salty coat , may well be coincidence but when ours swim in the sea or salt water rivers , they rarely have any little visitors :)

I rinse Penny off if we've just been for a day trip but if we are away for a week or whatever I just bath her when we get home.

Penny says to tell Lady that you mustn't drink the sea water though.... It gives you a very bad tummy that mum and dad will not like having to clean up after

Most of our beaches have fresh water creeks or rivers flowing across the sand, so we try to get the dogs to rinse in fresh water after the Salt Chuck. The salt water seems like the best shampoo we've used. They always come back with clean soft coats.

We don't really have any lakes and I didn't rinse Dexter off today, still working on training a rinse and difficult on my own at the moment. I'll wash his face next time, not that our beach has much sand, it's all pebbles unless the tides out.

I don't rinse after a swim in the sea, unless Obi is still very sandy before going into a house. Then I rinse the sand off.
