Yesterday morning, he refused to go for a walk. He had his last stitch out yesterday & final check-up, vet said he was OK, and discharged him. As the day wore on he became very low, refused food. He collapsed in the garden when he went out for his last wee of the day. OH carried him in & put him in his bed. Suddenly he was up & eating!
He was still wobbly & low this morning, but he ate breakfast. We went for our first off-lead walk, only 15 minutes of gentle stroll. But as the day has worn on he has sunk lower & lower. Phoned the emergency vet and we decided to take him in. Vet says he's dehydrated and anaemic, and tender abdo. They're doing blood tests & putting him on a drip. Temperature was fine. Just waiting for a phone call with the results He collapsed on the way to the car, but perked up when we got there and went into his lead-tug mode. The vet saw through that & said he could tell he was weak.

Oh how worrying. But you have acted quickly, and got him good medical care - so well done you. Perhaps an infection or something? Let's hope the vet gets to the bottom of it, and he is sorted quickly. Wishing you the very best with it.

results back - bloods fine - except anaemia. Vet said could be due to slow bleed, more likely an auto-immune disease attacking the red blood cells. Got to see if he stabilises over night...I think they're trying steroids - all a bit of a horrible blur.

What an awful experience. I hope there's a brighter picture for you in the morning. Poor Scooby. That vet sounds on the ball though so he'll be doing what he can.

Vet called. Seems he's not much better this morning. Ate some breakfast which is positive & they took him out for a walk - he was really happy & keen at first, but he only managed about 20 yards before exhaustion set in. They will continue with conservative management for a further 24hrs then repeat bloods to check for improvement. May consider spleen removal then.

Possible "growth" on spleen? OH spoke to the vet, so I'm getting it second hand.
