She did it again (sorry it's huge, I use the phone app for photobucket and there's no resize on it, not that I can find anyway) She literally ran across a path in between fields, she was on it about 10 seconds.
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Poor girl This happened to my SILs dog when she was holidaying with us We used Aloe Vera Lip salve and tried to protect the carpal pad by wrapping it in vet wrap (admittedly not overly successful)
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Oooo that looks familiar ! My Ruby ends up with a pad looking like that about every 6 weeks or so. We have had to stop her doing too much retrieving or skidding to a halt. It is so hard as it is a nightmare to heal. I have yet to find the miracle cure which repairs it quickly, but have found coconut oil and manuka honey helps, plus keeping it covered when I am not there to stop her licking it. It is then no walks or short lead walks on grass for about a 7-10 days after. My vet thinks it may be a sign of some sort of immune problem as the skin is so delicate. When Ruby had a pad that looked like Scouts he said it looked she had been charging along on gravel, not an average walk on grass! Hope it heals quickly. Chloe
Re: Scout has done it again :0( The poor sausage Does look like her pads are rather delicate, doesn't it. Did she skid on it?
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Dexter did it once and it looked exactly the same, bathing with cooled boiled salt water and an antibiotic cream sorted it quickly for us......we kept him on lead and pavement walking too.We haven't had have any reoccurrence so far.It looks so sore though she they do it :'(
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Can you put a boot on it while you are out when it's sore? I know they exist for dogs, probably could get one from amazon. Hope it heals up soon, poor little girl!

[/quote] Jane, I guess there are different types of boots but in my experience I would say the average boot would not cover the carpal pad as it is quite high, but that is a good thought. An old sock taped on might be a thought but whdn I tried that with Lilly when she had a cut on ber pad she just would not put her paw down on the floor :
Re: Scout has done it again :0( She never runs on concrete anymore sinse the last time she did it. Iv looked into boots and it is an option I'm looking into. I saw my vet at the great north dog walk today (she actually stopped me from doing the walk) she said even stopping and turning on grass sharply will make it happen. Iv no idea how I'm going to stop it in the future, unless I get boots. There is a wax you can get it's called mushers or mushies?? I'm still looking at reviews about.
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Ah, such a worry. Did your vet say whether it's something that might get better as she gets a bit older? Is it a young dog thing? (Thinking her pads might be a bit tougher when she is older or something like that?)
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Thanks so much for the link, im comparing it to mushers and then will buy the best.
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Ouch, poor girl, that looks sore Hope it heals quickly Have you thought about stopper pad protectors, you most often see flyball dog wearing them, many places sell them such as here http://www.countrymun.com/leather-stopper-pad-protectors.html
Re: Scout has done it again :0( They look like a really good idea Annabelle! I would vote for giving them a try.
Re: Scout has done it again :0( Oh poor Scout that looks so painful :'( I agree, Annabelles idea looks well worth a try. Great find x
