hello I was just wondering what people’s prefrences are when it comes to dog hair and how/ what you use to get it off sofa’s and upholstery. And are there any good gadgets/tools? Thanks

Labradors do NOT shed!!!! Ok, now that I have that out of my system.

The best way we have found to deal with upholstery is to not let it happen in the first place. Or at least get a grip on where it occurs. Murph is only allowed on the ottoman, and he does not use it much, just when he is feeling really schmoozy.

I use a small powerful shop vac with an upholstery nozzle on it. Seems to work. It has a hepa filter so it does not blow dust all over the place while in use.

Upholstery is really difficult because it is like velcro.

I pretty much just live with it...but I vacuum the couch regularly (dyson handheld is working very well), and wash the throw blankets and pillows frequently as well. The couch fabric is removable/washable and I do that once a year too.

Exactly. Except I have another tactic, which is just covering up where ever your dog likes to lay on the furniture with something easy to wash and that the hair doesn't stick to (a cotton sheet or smooth/tight-woven sofa cover, for example). Then I just fold it up, take it outside to shake and then shove the whole thing in the washer. If the fur never gets on the upholstery to begin with, it's easier.

Also duct tape or packing tape is your friend. I live in vacation rentals and always do the once over with big wide tape rolls on everything before I leave. Works a charm and much more effective than those lint roller things.

Also it really helps to give a good brushing with a shedding blade and curry brush once a day.

Caveat: this is for Rottweiler and Chihuahua fur, Labrador (especially the yellow) may be tougher!

With apologies to Causton CID, we live in "Labrador Drift". Air currents in the house seem to deposit in certain areas, although it is actually everywhere. Even with daily sweeping, we could build a new Lab out of the hair in our kitchen every day. We use a battery hand held Hoover and a Battery upright for quick cleaning, but it is a losing battle.

We keep a dog sheet on top of our Duvet in the bedroom.

I would recommend a OH with a Dyson and ocd. When I had 3 labs I would Dyson everyday. I have throws on all furniture which are changed weekly and like Emily have some fleece in favourite spots. With doing that and having my crazy oh we are relatively fur free. Now I'm down to 2 i only dyson every few days. My older dog was the main shedder and furry bear. Its not really that much of a problem just don't let it hang around and get embedded. I groom regularly taking out as much loose hair as possible. :)
