I know that not all of you are on facebook, so I will post this up here for your opinions. This is what someone posted on The Labrador Site facebook page this morning, in response to a video we posted of some Silver Labrador puppies. Completely aside from the issue of Silver Labs and whether or not they are pure-bred, in fact, assuming they are NOT pure bred, the question raised that concerns me is "Should we be discussing or posting pictures of, cross-bred dogs, on our Facebook page." I would like to hear what you all think
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! For what its worth , I think that the person writing this response is being very picky . It isnt an article about the rights or wrongs of silver Labs , its a litter of pups looking rather cute . I dont know enough about the origins of silver Labs but I personally dont see why its such a big deal , it isnt as though you are promoting them in any way by showing them on your FB page . x
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Why not? Discussing cross breeds, the pros and cons as well as highlighting health testing before breeding due to diseases inherent in some breeds is a good thing. It does not in any way diminish the value of the site for purebred labrador owners in my opinion. I've never thought of the Labrador Site (or any of the offshoots) as platforms for any particular stance on labs but more a bringing together of important information and experience and a place for a community of lab lovers to develop. That is only enhanced by the experiences and knowledge brought by our friends with other breeds joining us. ;D
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Morning Pippa. Personally I do not see a problem with this. I often get asked if Harley is a crossbreed (she's not), but in all honesty, I wouldn't care if she was. I think by allowing posts/photos of crossbreeds, this site and the people on it would still be supportive to whoever came to get advice and support. I look forward to hearing what other people on the site say
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Wow! That's tough for you all to answer. I haven't been on the site very long but have gained valuable information and help that would benefit any dog owner regardless of breed. So I don't think it would be fair to keep cross breed lab owners out. But I'm not sure of what your aims for the site are. Good luck with that one.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! I'd also like to point out that there seems to be a comment missing (or has been removed) that I posted a reply to asking what the poster meant by 'genetic clearance', they seemed to be saying that silver labs had no genetic clearance whatever that is......anyone else know?
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! No. Absolutely not. What would that make the site? And the forum that goes alongside. "Certified pure bred labs only?". Think what would be lost from the forum alone (the site and the forum match in theme, I think)! Loads of the members have cross breeds! And what about our poster boy, Harry? He isn't a labrador. What about our GSP and spaniel owners? Do they have to go elsewhere? Do we stop discussing ducklings because they are not dogs at all? I think I support a Labradoodle picuture on the front page of the labrador site. In fact, I think one of the lovely Hattie and Charlie (Labradoodle and Lab/pointer) should go up. That really cute one of them sitting in the doorway.

Banning cross breeds(or other breeds like spaniels, pointers etc) won't raise but lower the quality of this forum.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! I`ve a good mind to post a photo of Millie on the FB page , promoting her as a Miniture Long Haired Tri coloured Labrador ( only joking ) x

Go on! Go Millie, our very welcome cross breed lovely girl.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! We love cross breeds on this forum. I only have a pedigree lab because OH insisted. My old lab/spaniel cross was one of the best dogs you could ever wish for. It's an interesting question though I think - I upset someone recently by saying that in my opinion she shouldn't breed from her border collie-ish bitch, as she would never be sure where or how the puppies would end up. She got very cross and accused me of thinking that pure breeds are worth more than cross breeds or mongrels. That is not at all what I think - inherently I think every dog stands on its own merits! My only point was that IF you can be certain of the genetics of a particular dog, then you have more chance of knowing how it will turn out both physically and from its character, though that is not guaranteed. And my other point is that, for right or wrong, if someone pays quite a lot of money for a pedigree dog, then hopefully (HOPEFULLY) they will take good care of it. Also not guaranteed.

[/quote] How lovely of you to say that Julie, thank you so much Hattie & Charlie would be delighted to do a spot of modelling for Pippa I don't have facebook but needless to say I am deeply saddened and angry that anyone would feel this way about cross breeds or any dog and to want to ban them from facebook or any site is just the ultimate in dog snobbery. Whoever wrote that needs to seriously GET A LIFE Your not going to ever ban us are you Pippa? x
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! I wouldn't want to be part of any site that didn't welcome Hattie or Charlie. 8)
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! What and start a war! ;D ;D I have written a 'reply' of sorts, to the facebook post that prompted me to start this thread. It'll come out on Friday, and will link to this thread. (So be your most charming ) I am pleased that you all find the idea of banning cross-breeds from The Labrador Site (or its facebook page) as absurd as I do. I did think this was an interesting point raised, with regard to the silver colouring Colour Dilution Alopecia You can put Millie's beautiful face up on our page just whenever you want to
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Yes fascinating, I've never heard of this before. It will be interesting to see if this rears it's head in the silver labs.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Whoever poted that has a thing against 'silver Labs' but so do many folk, myself included. My opinion is he/she should sound out about the dogs' breeders not try to limit others sharing useful knowledge whatever breed or cross-breed.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! And another really interesting post by someone on the range of colours in Chessies which (I think) many years ago were an acknowledged cross with labs. I never realised the variety of colours and shades in Chessies.
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! That is Scottie Westfall. He is a veritable mine of information about dogs (and other animals). This is his blog Well worth a dig around when you have about 200 hours to spare
Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds! Oh, I do like to read 'The Retrieverman'. A couple of years ago he really got the American show Clumber fraternity whipped into a frenzy with his blog on working Clumbers on this side of the pond. ;D
