The vet thinks that our 5 1/2 month puppy has a liver shunt. She is having more tests on Thursday so will know more then but I wonder d if anyone had any experience?

No experience, sorry, but just wanted to offer sympathy - did the vet tell you anything about next steps or do you have to wait for Thursday?

She will be having bloods taken and repeat urine. I think they are hoping that bloods will come back early as likely to be doing a CT scan then too.

Likely treatment if she has it will be surgery but it depends on where the shunt is. Poor pup!

He is fairly confident it is that as she ticks other boxes. Poor growth, skinny.

Well, I've just read up a little about it - it seems a serious thing, doesn't it? Poor you, must be so very worrying.

Shunts inside the liver are difficult to correct with surgery, but those outside the liver can be corrected. Is that what you mean by where the shunt is? And the CT scan will show that?

Oh how scary, fingers crossed for you.

Our vet mentioned it once when Ella was a puppy as she had a slightly elevated liver enzyme level (sorry, I can't remember which one). However, Ella had no other symptoms and when we retested later the levels had returned to normal. Ella's slightly abnormal level seemed to be down to toxicity from eating something she shouldn't have.

I did a google search at the time and came up with similar results to those JulieT mentioned.

We'll be thinking about you and keeping an eye out for updates. X
