First time I've ever seen Pongo turn his nose up at dinner. He has been being sick all evening. I gave him a chew treat (one that a friend had bought, not a brand I'd have chosen but hey). A couple of hours later it all came up, along with the rest of his stomach contents and bright yellow mucus. He's been sick again three more times since - nothing left to spew, just bright yellow mucus. He did have a drink of water, but is now just lying down looking miserable. The thing that has really shocked me is that he is not asking for his dinner! First time ever ever ever! Poor boy. I can only think it is something in the treat, or possibly the raw chicken bones I gave him yesterday....but that was a whole day ago and surely can't be causing problems now?
Oh poor Pongo, it is a worry when they don't eat. Is he pooing OK? How many raw chicken bones did he have yesterday? He may have a blockage, or a tummy upset? Vet tomorrow if no better.
He hasn't had a poo since this morning, but that is quite normal (especially since he hasn't eaten anything since lunch). The chicken....well, it was the bones from a bird we spatchcocked to roast on Saturday, so since Saturday night he has put away two wingtips, and a backbone (cut in two). He seemed to crunch them up pretty well so I'm hoping they wouldn't be causing a blockage. He also seemed perfectly fine and as starving as ever until after lunch today when he had that treat....
Poor Pongo. My bet would be it was the treat rather than the chicken bones. I guess its time for rice and white fish to settle his tummy.
It does sound as if there was something in the treat, I believe the ones from China can be quite dangerous. Let us know how Pongo is tomorrow.
Thanks everyone. He is such a big softie, it just doesn't look right to see him all sad and pathetic!
Hope Pongo is feeling better and vack to his bouncy self. Never good when they look all sad. Stacia is right treats from China can be pretty bad. I know they get a bad rap over here.
Thank you all! Well, after being sick again in the night he is up this morning and has had a small breakfast - just a small portion of his normal kibble, but in lots of water. He slurped up the water eagerly, which was the main aim (although he is completely ignoring the water in his water bowl). And then he ate the kibble too, although slowly...by his standards! So far it has stayed down. He is quiet and is not nagging to go for his walk this morning, but I think I'll encourage him to come on a little one with me, if only so I can see what his poos are like . I do love this forum.
PS the treat was by Bakers (Purina), so not a really cheapo-rubbish brand. Maybe we just got a bad one.
