Last fall our neighbours got a puppy, a Great Dane/Mastiff cross. We have seen her a bit over the winter but she was a timid puppy and although we tried to get our two dogs to play it never really worked. Now that the winter is (mainly) over they have been able to have a few play sessions together. My daughter is home from University for the summer (yay) and she took Simba out for a walk and then filmed the two dogs playing - she said she thought my Labby friends would like to see them So...here is our new neighbour, Zelda, and Sarah (so nice to have her back!) image by psalmone1, on Flickr And here they are playing . So nice for Simba to have a doggy playmate next door! https://www.flickr.com/photos/31088481@N03/17153107759/
Re: Simba has a friend That's lovely Lisa , they seem to play so nicely too , Simba and his best buddy
Re: Simba has a friend Brilliant! look at his legs, reminds me of a gawky foal...he is lovely. I do love watching dogs play
Re: Simba has a friend That's fantastic!!! Good use of defensive butt moves, Simba! A very Labrador thing.
Re: Simba has a friend Oh Lisa, Simba is so very gentle for a big lad and Zelda is gorgeous. How lovely for them to have each other I don't want to jump the gun, but would Zelda's family be an option for looking after Simba when you have to go away? Maybe you could come to a mutual arrangement? xxx
Re: Simba has a friend Helen, I have definitely been thinking about asking them to help with doggie care, and offering to do the same. The only kink in that idea is that they also have 3 young-ish children. Who adore Simba but who aren't supervised when they are with him (unless I'm there), not, for that matter, when the two dogs are together. So that makes any longer term (ie overnight or something like that) a bit trickier. Simba does play nicely with Zelda, which is nice to see. They enjoy eachother, but he does get a bit tired of her puppy persistence sometimes - the mad zoom at the end was him heading for the protection of "under the deck" where she can't fit Our two yards have a connecting gate, so we can open that up and let the two of them have at 'er! So all in all, it's been a real blessing!
Re: Simba has a friend Zelda will grow up though, and become a bit more sensible. Then she'll make a good playmate. If the neighbours are just next door though, Simba could stay in his own house, with just adults visiting for play and care duties, maybe....be fine in a pinch....
