Did our usual walks today, no problem. Came home from the last one, he wanted to go outside. Came in after a bit, came in settled on his bed, all seemed good. Got up a little while later and he could hardly put any weight on his front left leg. His pad looks fine, have no idea what could have happened. It is very slippery out and the snow in places is very hard and frozen in lumpy heaps here and there - maybe he was running outside and slipped or something and pulled a muscle in his leg? But he was fine when he came in. Really weird. I'll see how he is tomorrow.
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Oh poor Simba! What the f... is going on lately. Seems like we're heading in the wrong direction thinking of the healthy/injured doggy balance on this forum!! Hopefully it all turns out well for you're buddy simba!
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Oh no, what a worry. Maybe pulled or sprained something? Period of rest for Simba perhaps. Sending hugs and a tummy rub for Simba. I think, if we actually calculated the injuries on the forum that have turned out to be very serious, it's still a very small percent. Most of our limping dogs pick up after a week or so rest. I haven't done the numbers, exactly. But we discuss the serious cases a lot. Good chance Simba will be fine!
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Fingers crossed it's just tweaked in the slippery conditions and all is well again soon. Rest up and get better Simba x
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Poor Simba! I'm going to think positive - this will be minor, and for a short while... no counter surfing. Hope rest and relaxation sorts it, I really do. Clare
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! I'm guessing he probably pulled a muscle or something Lisa. We have exactly the same problem - Poppy came home yesterday after a long walk with OH and a wild chase with another dog in the woods; limping badly on her front left shoulder. Some SERIOUS TALKING from me about less wild playing, and I am also trying to ban the tennis ball chucker, I worry so much about it, it was due to a game with that that she tore a nail last month . Hopefully both Simba and Poppy will both be bounding around as normal in a few days!
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Well, he got up this AM and seems basically right as rain. A very slight limp when he first got up, then as he moved around and warmed up a bit, seemed to be fine. Just seems so strange. I'll keep an eye on him, for sure. I was going to cancel walks today but I'll do our short one as usual this AM and see how he is after that. Must have had a little slip on the ice in the back, that's all I can think. But relieved that it doesn't seem to be serious.
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! I bet he did just slip and pulled a muscle Lisa,so easy to do in the conditions you have and he's a big grown up boy now so quite a bit of weight to catch whe you are off balance....hope he was ok after his morning walk? No counter surfing for Simba now he's discovered Ice Skating!you take it easy out there too x
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Oh poor simba, i hope that it is nothing serious and that a few days of rest sorts him out. Sending him get well soon vibes and lots of hugs and cuddles
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Winter tires are definitely needed!! He still is limping a bit. Not that noticeable once he's up and moving, and was fine on our (shorter) noon time walk. But then he had a nap this afternoon and was noticeably limping again when he greeted Mark and Sarah when they came home after school. I'm not too worried about it. In the back yard he has packed down a few trails which he travels on, but once you step off those icy trails you can easily sink into the snow (I just picked up poo the other day, so speaking from experience here :). And it's up to my knee and higher in places. So I could very easily see how he could be running and put his foot down off the path into deep snow, wrenching a leg at the sudden stop. Short walks for now, hopefully he'll be over it in a few days.
Re: Simba limping now...yeesh! Pops was still limping yesterday too, when I took her for a short walk around the block in the evening it was very noticeable. This morning she seemed fine though… We're just taking it very easy for a few days; no racing around, no playing with other dogs, no dummies. And NO TENNIS BALL CHUCKER. Ever. (If it's up to me.)
