When my puppy Cooper (16 weeks) sits, he doesnt sit straight....dont know how to explain it.....he is a little lopsided....one of his hind legs goes out a bit and the "sit" looks a bit sloppy. Wish I could send a photo but have no idea how to do it. Do any of you noticed the same thing with your puppy?
Re: Sitting pose Hi yes I know exactly what you mean. Izzy is 4.5 months. And I have noticed that she sits proper on grass or carpet so I have put it down to the wooden floor and tiles being to slippy for her. But I know what you mean by a sloppy sit. Like a child sprawled across the sofa lol !
Re: Sitting pose i must be very lucky as i have had a good sit from day one, i have read on the post about sloppy sits, i think julie might be able to help you with this, if i remember right charlie had a sloppy sit, if i am wrong forgive me
Re: Sitting pose Hi there - you lucky thing! Your labrador is probably going to grown up to have a fabulous otter tail! Dogs with a sloppy sit like this may to do it to have their brilliant tail slightly to one side. It's also the case that they are more intelligent than other labradors, and have bigger brains, so the extra brain weight makes them slump slightly to one side. Many congratulations! ;D ;D ;D If you don't want your lab to do it you can insist on a proper sit by training them to sit straight, against a wall, your leg or something else. They won't necessarily correct when they are just doing their own thing though, but you can train them to sit straight on command. Sloppy sit labradors, being more intelligent than other labradors, pick this up very quickly. ;D ;D ;D
Re: Sitting pose Julie is exactly right only the very best have a sloppy sit Riley sits sloppily when he's doing his own thing, if he sits on command it's pretty straight as he's looking at me for what's next
Re: Sitting pose When Pongo is after something - for example, when he is overseeing work in the kitchen - his sit is perfectly upright, poised, alert, kennel club perfect. At ALL other times we have a wide variation on the sloppy sit - sideways, slumpy, and splay-legged (that last one seems designed to show off his willy...most embarrassing in polite company). Cooper is very very normal!
Re: Sitting pose Tatze is only just getting out of puppy sitting at 14 months, but now a 'good' sit is the usual. It's nothing to worry about at all
Re: Sitting pose Interesting Julie, I doesn't know that...Dexter is similar to Riley, sloppy when he's lounging...nice and straight if he think something fun.....or tasty is about to happen !
Re: Sitting pose Obi always has a great sit. I will break the sad news to him that this indicates a mental deficiency My first Lab had a terrible sit (and was a very smart dog). Always had his legs splayed out to the sides like a drunken camel. I wouldn't worry too much about it....
Re: Sitting pose
legs splayed out to the sides like a drunken camel.
Oh what a great image. And completely accurate. ;D

Re: Sitting pose With Molly I would describe it as more of a slump, with a touch of insolence thrown in. But then she is a teenager
Re: Sitting pose With Pongo it is definitely a matter of "what is the least possible effort I need to put into achieving a vaguely upright position, from which I can easily return to my interrupted nap".
Re: Sitting pose Albert does a great legs akimbo, willy flash when he can't be bothered , but a perfect, straight back, head up fully alert sit when waiting for his Kong air fetch stick to be thrown in the water, or a strip of dried tripe! Typical lab puppy! Jan
