Hello community ...my two year old female ginger seems to have something serious going on with her skin . the wife and I was cleaning her up tonight and noticed several scabs and spots on her belly , neck and armpit area ..we have her up to date on her front line flea and tick. Were very worried about her..she doesn't seem to be itching allot though but these spots look horrible ! , I uploaded some pics to Google and I'll post a link here . Any advice or experience with this will he much appreciated ..

Hmmm...I really think that's one for a vet, or, even better, a veterinary dermatologist (which you may need a referral to). It does look like she's been licking or scratching at those areas and they have become a bit bald and scabby. Could be an allergic reaction that is causing irritation and licking at her skin. I know you said that she doesn't seem to be scratching a lot but her your seen her licking at those areas?

Yup that's definitely one for your vet. She looks like she has folliculitis, which is typically caused by bacteria although much less commonly dermatophytosis (ringworm) or demodicosis (a parasite) may do it too. The trouble with bacterial skin infections is they are rarely primary, in other words if you stick the bacteria on the skin of a healthy dog they don't cause disease. There is usually an underlying cause which damages the protective barrier function of the skin and allows the bacteria to cause disease. Typically in a 2yo labrador with what looks like pink saliva staining on the fur that underlying cause may be allergy. One of the issues with bacterial infection is once it becomes established it can become self-perpetuating so a prompt visit to your vet to confirm bacterial infection, institute appropriate treatment and start to have a look for underlying causes would be the order of the day. Hope this helps and do let us know how you get on.

Oh poor girl! That looks sore. Hope the vet manages to sort it out - agree that seeing a dermatologist is a good idea.

OK, I took ginger to the vet yesterday , the verdict is insect bites...they think she got into ants or black fly's , which is a possibility, because she loves to run, we bought medicated shampoo and were cleaning her belly with wet wipes nightly, all seems to be going well, and now I'm keeping her out of the woods at dusk and early morning when bugs are bad . thank you all for your help...

Glad that you have something to work with now, and it sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to fix either :) Hope you see improvement quickly.
