I have a 2 year old skinny yellow lab. I thought he was healthy, and the vet said he is healthy when I took him for his vaccination, but I am getting comments from other dog owners we meet about how skinny he is. Should I be worried? He seems happy and does eat the amount the bag says to give. I don't want to over feed him and now I'm confused about what to do.

I would be inclined to listen to my vet and not anyone else. If he is healthy and happy, ignore them.

Some people think all labs look like the show labs but working labs can look very different. As long as your vet is happy and you can’t see his ribs ignore the comments.

I have a mini skinny young working lab girl. It’s worth looking up dog body condition scores, this gives you a good idea. Plenty of charts for this on the internet. Hope that helps and reinforces what your vet’v view was

Someone with 4 working Labradors once told me that there are so many fat Labradors these days that a dog that is the right weight looks too thin. Vets have nothing to gain by lying so trust them

For an example of Aujla's point, perhaps look at Labs voted as best of breed in shows.

I think most of the Lab's there are seriously overweight/obese. I don't know what the judges are thinking.

Did you see the Lab that won best in breed at Westminster dog show? I know some people said it's pregnant but I saw other dogs there and it was shocking. My pup is 16 months and her ideal weight is around 24.0kg, I was really upset when I let her get to 24.6kg. She's now 23.5kg and happy.
