Hi Guys , Milo is 9 weeks old now and i have been sleeping with him in the kitchen .i now feel its time to leave him alone as he sleeps through the night. Am i being unfair? he loves sleeping under my bed but then there the potty training problem so i feel for now he's better locked in the kitchen . Any advice pls ?
Re: sleeping arrangments I would break the routine as soon as you can , unless you want to be sleeping in your kitchen for a long time , which isnt ideal He may cry at first , but truly, he will adapt to any change whilst he is so very young , resist the temptation to go to him , it might sound harsh but it isnt really and good luck x
Re: sleeping arrangments I agree with Kate. The sooner Milo learns to sleep on his own the better for both of you.
Re: sleeping arrangments Definitely, definitely! Brace yourself for really pitiful whines and howls - but be very strong and don't give in, it really is for his own good. With Pongo it took about four nights for him to realise that it was OK to be alone and nothing to worry about.
Re: sleeping arrangments Ah brace yourself and proceed! You never know it might be ok....my dog was a lot older but he only cried the first night, let us know how you get on,good luck x
Re: sleeping arrangments We have a ten week old pup here and she has a crate in the kitchen, my 15 month old dog is crated in another room. Both are fine. When the pup (Gypsy) arrived I sat by the crate (but ignored her and made no eye contact) until she settled on the first night. Since then I have popped her in, covered the crate, turned the lights out and gone upstairs. Not a peep. I think they are all different and you need to play it by ear. I had to go cold turkey with Tatze as she raised the roof when put in the crate. But, after a few days she was just fine and now won't be without her crate after two attempts to de-crate her In the morning she doesn't come out until she knows breakfast is served!
Re: sleeping arrangments Yes I would get out of the habit of sleeping in the kitchen ASAP! The longer you carry it on, the harder it will be for the pup. He will most likely cry the first couple of nights but be strong and stick to your guns!
Re: sleeping arrangments Hi Chrissie, sleeping in the kitchen...... that is dedication. We had a good crate habit going with Lilly quite early but after a month or so she started stretching morning wake-up. Before 6am was my absolute cut off as to "unsocial hours". Expect advances and hiccups! Hope all is going well. jac
