Did not have a very pleasant walk with Nero today. A local Labrador had got out of her garden and Nero was trying to get to her almost pulling me over! She ran to try to get away from him and a passing car nearly knocked her over!

Since this bit of lunacy with me trying to drag him away he has developed a slight limp which seem to be in one of his front legs....it doesnt seem to be bothering him though

What do you think it could be? Maybe a sprain?

    Oh no :'(
He might of strained it or hurt it quite badly. I would monitor it tonight and if it's still the same tomorrow I would call the vet.
    Hope it's not too serious

Hopefully nothing too serious....definitely keep an eye on it and try to avoid straining it further over the next little while.

    Update..

The limp seemed less noticeable this morning and when i came home from work lunchtime, however this evening it seems to be back. It seems to be both front legs, almost like he is uneasy on them

As yesterday it doesnt seem to be bothering him, i'm thinking after the heavy pulling on his lead yesterday maybe he has strained his neck and he is a little stiff there. I have touched around both legs and his shoulders but he doesnt seem to be in pain in any particular area.

He has not had a walk today as i want to give him 24-48 hours rest to recover. If there is no improvement in a few days ill take a trip to the vet

This morning he seems fine, maybe a little stiff in the front after getting up but after moving around a bit he was his usual bouncy self chasing the cat up the garden!

After this incident i think i am going to buy a harness as i am worried about this happening again.....i know some people are against harnesses but what are your thought here?

    Thanks

We use a harness as there is no risk of damage to the neck and the load is spread evenly if there is a lunge at anything. Obi walks well on lead but he still will do the occasional bolt to the end of the lead.... We use a back fastening harness. I am a harness fan as I think it's a kind, safe and secure way to walk a dog.

I am a back fastening harness fan, but unfortunately my dog hates them. If not for that, I would always walk him in a back fastening, Y shaped, harness.

I don't know anything about harnesses as I have never used one. But after having had a small limp carry on for FOUR WEEKS earlier this year, I would always take a dog to the vet about a limp that doesn't clear up completely after 24 hours.

Karen, can i ask what the problem was with your dog when he/she had a slight limp?

    Update...

A few days rest and light walks seem to have helped. No limping since.

Going to gradually increase the duration of his walks for the next few days

I use a back fastening harness......it's the last in a line of training aids that helped me get control over Dexter's pulling. With training we are ok now but Dexter will always lunge after a cat he sees that I've missed or sometimes other dogs. The harness gives you more control and stops that awful straining on the neck that I can't bear.glad the limp has gone x
