Apologies for the slow loading times today. Last time this happened it was followed by some 'downtime' so I hope it is soon resolved. If the website goes down I will post updates on our Facebook page.

Apologies for this. The sharp eyed amongst you may have noticed some odd messages for the last few minutes.

I have upgraded the software for the forums and it all seems to be running smoothly now. It also seems a bit quicker. I'll check back here a few times over the next day or so, please let me know if the problems persist.

    Oz the admin geek.

On the subject of gremlins, I periodically get a redirect to "the australian brewing company" with or without a link about updated some softwear. Its pretty annoying and doesn't seem to have any clear trigger. Just when I am on the lab site though :-\
    Is it just me?

It's a pleasure Pip, I've also done some pruning behind the scenes to try to streamline the database. It seems fine to me now, but that could just be my laptop.

Does it redirect from any specific page? Is it the forums or the main site? It is possible that there is some malware on the site somewhere, but it is also possible that there could be something on your computer. Do you have antivirus software? Also have you come across Adaware and Spybot?

    Re: Slow loading times

    Hi there!
I haven't worked out if it is from any specific page but its a repeat offender when I am on the forum. Not the website.
I do have AVG. Its not picked up anything, but we used to use Spybot, but not on this current laptop.
I was wondering if it was related to someone's pup called "Brew" - and maybe there is something picking that up. I think I will get Spybot downloaded and see if I can weed it out - its irritating.
    Thanks!
    jac

    Re: Slow loading times

I did come across something similar some years ago on a forum I looked after. It essentially highlighted appropriate words and turned them into links to different sites. The words were always relevant to the site in question. No auto-redirects though.

That was a malware issue, it was hosted on individual computers but passed by the forum server. If there was a vulnerability in the version of SMF we were running it should have been fixed with the upgrade. Either way it's worth running Spybot, or do what all the proper geeks do and switch to Linux... :)

Sadly, Lisa, Macs don't speak nicely to my work computers or appraisal software providers :-\
I have been hopefully all Malwared out, so time will tell.
    Thanks Oz.

All Unix based originally, but Apple are as bad as MS for controlling your access to the functionality of the OS. Command lines are where all the cool kids hang out. :D (too geeky perhaps?)
