    hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows how best to care for a small puncture wound caused by a bite from another dog. My aunty's grumpy collie is staying with us and bit my poor little puppy yesterday, needless to say we have now separated them but I'm not sure what to do about the bite on tatti's snout.

There are two photos below, the one that is more red is from today, the other one is yesterday. I assume this is just normal healing but should I use some kind of antibacterial wipe? I'm wary of sealing it as I've read it can make it more likely that it will get infected further down. I know it's small but I'd hate it to get infected.

    Yesterday https://flic.kr/p/Ebxu82
    Today https://flic.kr/p/E3isRr

It doesn't seem to hurt her, in fact I don't think she's been bothered at all by it.

    Any suggestions welcome :) x

Hi, I wouldn't worry about that too much, just keep it clean. You can wash it off with warm water, and put an antibacterial cream on it if you like, but honestly it looks fine. Definitely don't try to seal it!

I would have popped a blob of savlon on the wound, after a cleaning with warm salty water (1 tsp natural salt in a pint of water) then again after walks until the wound heals naturally and you are sure it's clean and not looking red, sore or swollen :)

Agree with above. I actually have a small puncture and a big discoloured swelling on my own forehead from Oban and I rolling into each other when we were wrestling on the floor. ONe of his canines made contact, firm contact, with my head. It bled, it has a scab now, good thing I have bangs. I'm doing for myself what people said above.

One thing to remember, and why I suggested a policy of 'less is more', is that she will be able to lick off anything you put on her lip, so you need to make sure it wont upset her tummy.

Sorry to hear that your puppy got a bite. Snowie has received three such nips in his four years, and in all cases I didn't do anything and they healed fine. I might've wiped them with apple cider vinegar (my go-to solution). I just think of myself, and I often get cuts and scratches from working in the garden, and I just clean the area. The fourth nip Snowie got on his anus and my vet recommended Bactroban (an antibiotic cream) because, being the anus area, the area is susceptible to infection. The unfortunate thing with a yellow Lab -- well in Snowie's case -- is that he has little black spots where the hair never grew back over the nip and his dark skin shows through.
