Zac is 12 months old now and has been fed raw food Nutriment chicken or turkey from 6 months. He is big ,strong and full of life but he smells very doggie. As the only dog he liveS indoors so this is proving a smelly problem.I'm debating having him cut and trying SKINNERS kibble as I have always fed that with no problems but to girls. Is this a boy problem.? Anyone any experience of this and resolving it?

Why not just try a bath first? A bath once in a while is not going to hurt his skin or coat, use an odour combating shampoo. WASh his bedding in the same shampoo. Also try to identify the source of the smell and a description of how it smells would really help. Fishy might be anal glands. Sour milk might be stud tail or an infected sebaceous cyst. Yeasty ears can be pretty bad too.

No, it's not a boy problem, for me anyway. My boy is intact, he only smells if he gets into stinky water or rolls in something.

Thank you for reply. He smells very doggie and so does any room he has had been shut in. I havn't bathed him as he is always in the river or local spring water pond but his bedding is washed frequently (x2-3times week) I really miss that lovely puppy smell and the house smells like an old dog lives here.

@Gwenda did you reply to my post? The one you quoted above? Because I don't see a reply and the same thing is on another thread where you quoted someone but there is no entry from you. Is there some weird thing going on where my computer does not "see" your replies? Only where you have quoted as obviously I saw your OP.

Ah, that lovely puppy, if only it lasted longer :) . It sounds as if your boy has grown up and smells of, well dog :) . Although I love Juno's smell I do have a couple of automatic air fresheners in the kitchen and hall to reduce any OTT doggy and cat odour, and I find that's enough to keep the house fresh :)

Oh, now I see your reply. First you made the quote, then you made another post with the reply? You can do as I have just done. :)

The river and spring water might be smelly but just on him. You never know, my dogs swim in one pond that doesn't make them stink but I've met people who says it does make their dog smell. Why that could be I have no idea. But Oban does retain stuff in his harsh coat that Jet, who got into the same smelly puddles, did not.

Thank you for that Snowshoe. Just wondered if its possibly the Dyson's fault as well( moulting copiously at present) so will buy new filter for that tomorrow plus dog shampoo and white vinegar to leave in pots on window sills. Will keep you posted.

A dog shouldn't smell a lot. I mean, dogs do smell like dogs, but what you describe sounds a bit strong to me. Sometimes a food sensitivity can lead to a smelly coat and feet....

Does he scratch himself often, or does he ever chew at his feet?

He is scratchy at the moment but I put that down to moulting his coat. Will get new filter for Dyson and probably go back to feeding Skinners kibble.Raw meat is I'm sure more natural for dogs but being a vegetarian myself I cant say I appreciate the smell of meat and blood even outside. The previous 10 dogs have always worked well into their teens on Skinners so Zac will join them with the odd meat feed as a treat. Thank you for replying.

The room where Fred and Annie sleep at night, I always burn a candle next day for 5 mins to make it smell nice. You could try that in your room.
