I was wondering if anyone had any tips when labs are shedding to reduce the amount of hair in the house? I dont mind it but any tips on how to manage would be fab!

One of the draw backs of Labs I`m afraid ::) ::) I have seriously considered having a black carpet in my sitting room ;)

We have a yellow dog and 'dirty yellow Labrador' coloured carpet. Ditto with bedspread. Trouble is we did our bathroom when we had a black Lab so we've got charcoal coloured tiles...bit of a disaster with the yellow.

Colour matching the dog is definitely the go :) And a good vacuum cleaner. And regular brushing with a slicker brush or undercoat rake.

We have a choc lab shedding, but his new coat doesn't seem to be growing as fast as he is shedding his old, his tum, elbows are looking decidedly patchy, and ehem his balls are now bald...not a great look.. Not sure if this is normal?

    Sorry Benson, I laughed.

I find that they can look a little light in spots when in between coats. Shouldn't last long though :)

Brodick has a Very Distant Memory of balls bless him....I'm covering his ears too....now he just thinks balls are squeaky things that your owner throws for you to chase...

Alas for him, Obi too only has the throwable kind in his life these days.

Cants stop laughing. No dogs with balls here! Lots of boys in this house but I can't say I will be looking for hair loss lol.

Hahahaha so funny! Penny adores balls, her favourite thing in the world... But only the throwable kind.

Tori-Lizzie, I'm sorry, Pongo seems to have taken your thread in a most unsavoury direction. Typical labrador behaviour.

Having previously had a golden retriever I am finding yellow lab shedding a breeze - you don't know how lucky you are unless you have a retriever first LOL

Benson's precious pale plums really are quite distracting!...They stand out somewhat against his chocolate coat.

I think also he may be in a final growth spurt, so coupled with his immune system fighting off a bug, and his growth spurt this has may hampered a smooth moult out. I have increased his food to the maximum for his age for a week or two, he looks a fraction light atm.

In an attempt to get this back on track:

Labs are well known for their continuous moulting. It never stops, but seems to get more intense in spring and autumn. Regular brushing can help to reduce the amount of hair. Matching carpets can disguise the problem.

Apart from that your only option is to shave the dog :)

I intend to weave the hair from my black lab and (mostly) white spaniel to make cloth so I can have clothes that don't show the hair :)
