Dexter gulped so much water this morning that within the hour he vommitted up his breakfast, it was whole chunks of kibble so I assumed all normal no problem- Since then, he ate lunch and dinner but after dinner in the past 2 hours he has vomitted 4 times and there's a lot there and it's mushy i.e not whole kibble now I'm starting to get a bit anxious, he is still drinking and he has had all of his food for today so I'm reluctant to try chicken and rice tonight. Someone suggested not feeding him to let his stomach settle incase it's a bug? Not sure if it's something I should call the vet about?

    Hello there,

Is there a reason why you think the drinking was connected to the vomiting? It seems unlikely, if there was a time lag (you say "within the hour").

I'd call the vet for advice - it's not unusual for a dog to vomit, but repeated vomiting may be cause for concern.

I think it was just because he gulped so much at such a fast pace I assumed it just came back up but I guess your right if there was a time lag it probably wasn't the water! I hope he hasn't eaten something he shouldn't have!! But I'm quite observant with him maybe it's a bug :(

Oh poor Dexter. As he is vomiting it's best not to offer him any more food as he's likely to vomit it up again. If he's drinking that's fine as he will not become dehydrated. I'm guessing that he's not suffering with diarrhoea, just vomiting, so I would just keep an eye on him and perhaps offer him a very small breakfast of chicken and rice in the morning and see how he is. If you're concerned about how he seems give the vet a ring for advice. Better to play it safe when they're small. Let us know how he is.

Homer went through bouts of vomiting as a puppy. On one occasion the missing foot of his toy pheasant reappeared, another was after he found an entire tub of margerine washed up on the river bank. Along with a few other occasions for no reason apparent to us. I'd give him his usual amount of food in smaller meals more often during the day with some water and wait to if it stays down and comes out the other end. If there is any change in his demeaned and is lathargic then straight to the vet.

Thanks everyone, Dexter is much better now, we withheld food for a bit and as suggested gave him smaller portions at 2 hour intervals and he managed to keep it all down! ☺️
