after spending the last 5 weeks training jasper to walk nicely on the lead, i have now got a puppy that walks to heel, no pulling, sits at the roadside before crossing over the last 2/3 days when approaching a road he as sat without being told not every road.....i am so proud of him this is a puppy who was very frightened of being walked by the road, from being told that jasper was only allowed to walk on lead, i went back to basics, i now realise that i was rushing jasper i have made a lot of mistakes with him now i am taking my time with each step i take, i have been working on the recall from the garden, that is going well , .........in 2 weeks time i am going to start him on a long lead and practise the recall over and over i was expecting him to run before he could walk ??? from all the advice from the forum and reading pippas book, i now have a little more knowledge, so now i am putting the knowledge into practise, very slow, most of all i am going to enjoy the training without expecting things to happen over night thank you all for all the advice you have given me so far,.......will be needing lots more advice along the way
Re: so proud of my boy I reckone you have done wonderfully well Lynne , even more so because dear Jasper is your first dog , so a massive well done to you ;D As for mistakes ? I`ve had dogs all my life and believe me , am still learning , sometimes looking back in regret at the mistakes made along the way , but at least we ( usually !) learn from mistakes so they arent all bad
Re: so proud of my boy Lynne what great news! I'm still new to these forums but Jasper is a gorgeous boy! Even though Dexter is 10 weeks old and not yet allowed out for walks, just a post like this from a first time lab/dog owner gives us both faith that you can do walk calmy and obediently Its that magic 'P' word again...Perserverance!
Re: so proud of my boy he is doing well, he looks very wishy washy, still wanting to climb, :'( boys will be boys,.....will be easier when he gets a light weight plaster cast on, the one he as on is very heavy.......he as been to mine today i put jasper on the lead , frightened to death of him jumping up on him,.....he is coming tomorrow for a couple of hours, my heart will be in my mouth
Re: so proud of my boy I wouldn't worry too much Lynne - the hefty plaster will protect him from any harm! I bet he was delighted to be with you and Jasper x
Re: so proud of my boy logan is so funny he walked in the door and with his stern voice said SIT jasper,....we took jasper out for a short walk then off we went for our lunch logan still wanted to roll over on the floor with him.......grrrrr i got 2 of them to train now
Re: so proud of my boy helen i already feeling sick of the 2 of them being together tomorrow .......jasper gets to over excited when he sees logan ......when he arrives i will put him on the lead until he calms down, have a little walk then we may be able to play without to much excitement
