after spending the last 5 weeks training jasper to walk nicely on the lead, i have now got a puppy that walks to heel, no pulling, sits at the roadside before crossing :)
over the last 2/3 days when approaching a road he as sat without being told :) not every road.....i am so proud of him :) this is a puppy who was very frightened of being walked by the road, :)
from being told that jasper was only allowed to walk on lead, i went back to basics, i now realise that i was rushing jasper :)
i have made a lot of mistakes with him  now i am taking my time with each step i take, i have been working on the recall from the garden, that is going well , .........in 2 weeks time i am going to start him on a long lead and practise the recall over and over ;)
i was expecting him to run before he could walk ???
from all the advice from the forum and reading pippas book, i now have a little more knowledge, so now i am putting the knowledge into practise, very slow, most of all i am going to enjoy the training without expecting things to happen over night :) thank you all for all the advice you have given me so far,.......will be needing lots more advice along the way :)

I reckone you have done wonderfully well Lynne , even more so because dear Jasper is your first dog , so a massive well done to you ;D

As for mistakes ? I`ve had dogs all my life and believe me , am still learning , sometimes looking back in regret at the mistakes made along the way , but at least we ( usually !) learn from mistakes so they arent all bad ;)

Lynne what great news! I'm still new to these forums but Jasper is a gorgeous boy!

Even though Dexter is 10 weeks old and not yet allowed out for walks, just a post like this from a first time lab/dog owner gives us both faith that you can do walk calmy and obediently :D Its that magic 'P' word again...Perserverance!

I wouldn't worry too much Lynne - the hefty plaster will protect him from any harm!
I bet he was delighted to be with you and Jasper :)
