Would it be so bad to reverse our previous 'no sofa' decision for Cosmo? As he's a bit bigger now, he can get on and off with ease. All that's been heard in this house has been 'off' and furious floor pointing to no avail! He so wants to be on there that I'm thinking 'oh sod it, go on then'........Will this confuse the little chap? Has anyone else caved?!The main reason I didn't want him on there to begin with was a) hurting himself trying to get off when he was smaller b) He's gonna be a big'un that probably wont fit on it with the five of us humans and c) being a first time dog owner, loads of people advised the 'make him know his place, i.e., on the floor' :-\ . Thanks!, Kate x

We gave in, once she could get up herself....

After me getting her down all day and walking in to find her snuggled next to hubby was when I gave up! She seemed to calm down a bit as would settle sooner. Are they leather because she leaves a mess behind her!

Ahh, thanks for that, not just me then! No, they're not leather but I got a Vax carpet and upholstery washer recently purely because of Cosmo! I'm here on the computer and I can hear him dreaming in the other room, no doubt on the sofa! God he makes the strangest noises when he sleeps ;D!!

I set out with the greatest of intentions when Sam was a puppy , but I`m afraid I caved and let him come up ::) Sam isnt a very fussy dog so those sofa cuddles are worth the dog hairs left behind :)

It's the only time I really get to be calm and really loving with him.....If i try and sit with him on the floor, he thinks I'm a climbing frame activity toy ::)!

I've stayed firm......but I could cave EVERY day ;D Dexter doesn't even try....his breeder had laid the foundations for me so it was for us to encourage!and we didn't!iIn our case, poor love,we thought he is going to have enough confusion learning to live with 2 inept owners, lets not confuse the things he has already got established in his head!we were climbing frames to him ( chris still is but he encourages it) when he was smaller, now he lays quietly by me if I sit on the floor and if I'm on the couch he lies on my feet.....LOVE That :*
Get him on the couch and have a good snuggle.....I've learned a few dog hairs DON'T matter and I never thought I'd say that! ;)

Amy was asleep on the other sofa, but has now moved to sit on my knee. I have noticed that she won't settle if I have one of the boys on me instead. She tries to shove them off. ::)

She isn't allowed on at grandmas and she doesn't even try!

I always have to giggle at myself when this question comes up.

I started with the best of strict intentions, all abandoned now...it's too good to miss having Charlie curled up on the sofa with me....I rapidly reversed allowing dogs upstairs though when OH allowed it when I was away, that was a step too far, and so upstairs remains out of bounds (apart from 5 minutes each morning when Charle is allowed to bounce on OH to get him out of bed - I can't deprive either of them that).

My furniture is brown, as is my dog, I just ordered a job lot of thin fleece throws for the fabric (asda picnic blankets with one side water proof were an absolute bargain because Charlie doesn't understand "wait until you are dry please") and go through 2 packs of leather wash wipes a week. It's worth it...

Yes.....I'll be getting a big turtle mat to soak up the worst of paw dirt but throws are a good idea, luckily our sofa's brown too so should hide SOME of the yuk!

We're Couch Cuddlers too, I'm afraid... But I have managed to restrict it to there only being ONE dog couch, thank goodness!

We use throws too, and in bad weather we have smaller throws to go over the larger throws... ::)

We use throws too , I made the big mistake of buying new cream coloured ones , black dog cream covers are far from ideal ::) ::)

We use throws plus a sheet. I like the idea of throws with a waterproof backing though. She's upstairs at the moment looking out of the window of our holiday cottage. Several dogs here. None seem to be socialised so Lady is the only one off lead anywhere including the surrounding fields.

She's not allowed on the furniture here on holiday. Seems OK so far.

    Re: Sofa question!

We said "No" to the sofa dog issue. And stuck to our guns :(
Now and again she will be invited up for a cuddle, but she doesn't usually last long, just hops off.
We have caught her up a couple of times "without permission" and clearly it has been to find just the right sun spot. ;D
We also have throws but they are a pain and I have new covers for my sofas - not got them on just yet...... ;D

    Re: Sofa question!

Obi is allowed on the sofa. He sits on it more than we do.. Just a word of experience - spot-on flea treatments bleach leather (it's fine once it dries on the dog though).

It won't confuse Cosmo if you suddenly start letting him stay on the sofa. He'll just think that you've finally come to your senses :)

The next step in the Human Behaviour Modification Program is sleeping on your bed.

Our 3 all use the sofas. And the chair. And the bed. And the window sill, and the bookcase. That's all though, I'm no push over they know who the boss in this house. 8)
Despite how much room there is though, Charlie always prefers sleeping on Harry's back.
Oh, and the office chair too...

Apparently I'm the lone meanie of the group. No dogs on the furniture here - bed or sofa! He's way too big for that. I love my dog, but I'm not sharing my bed or couch with him!

You're not alone Lisa, no dogs on furniture or upstairs here either. I'm up for a cheeky cuddle but OH is adamant ::)
