    Hi all,

My puppy is 5 months and does not have a 'soft mouth' for treats or toys. She gets super excited and grabs it from my fingers and in the process sometimes her teeth scratch my fingers. She is losing her puppy teeth and I am afraid her adult teeth will cause greater damage to my fingers.

How can I train her to take the treat gently! She is very good with sitting for a treat and waiting patiently. But the moment I bring it near her mouth she grabs it.

    Thanks!

    Zaba is like this!

I don’t even try to give him a treat by hand when he’s excited.

But there is a way to teach it when he’s calm. Have the treat in your fist and only release it when she’s being really gentle. Ignore all licking, pawing and nudging - just give it when she’s perfect.

    :)

And make sure you are holding the treat at mouth level or below as that helps to stop any snatch of the treat.

I am holding it at mouth level. Maybe I should try holding it below...

Hi @Priya71 if you enjoy watching videos to help with training I can suggest the kikopup channel. There are definitely a few videos about encouraging your pup to not bite and also how to encourage a soft mouth.
