Sore back paws....I've posted the photo a bit big so hopefully the redness shows up... He was running on rough hard tracks yesterday (although there wasn't anything wrong last night), and this morning he was running on soft meadows by the river. They are sore, he doesn't want to put his weight fully on his left one in the house, although outside on a walk (just a slow lead walk) he is his normal self. He's been chewing at them a bit, and they feel a bit warm.... I've stopped him chewing at them, just by supervising him, and washed them off with clean water and dried them, which seems to have helped. Might try salt water or hibiscrub.... What do you think? Just a bit foot sore, or perhaps some kind of irritation from something.... sore paws by julieandcharlie, on Flickr
Re: sore paws.... Poor Charlie they do look sore. I'd go with salt and water Julie it will help dry out the area as well as cleaning it. If he's bothering with it a lot it could be an irritation from something. I would think if it was just sore from the rough rocks he wouldn't bother with it too much once resting if you see what I mean.
Re: sore paws.... Thanks, Jen. Yes, I was thinking the redness was a bit towards the edges for it to be from the rough tracks and there is no obvious "damage" if you know what I mean. I didn't throw his ball for him on the tracks but he was tearing around a fair bit, as he does. It's a bit of a mystery. His front paws are ok.... He is not bothering them now, but seems sleepy and tired (I think he's overdone it a bit, we've maybe been out too much). I'll try salt water later....
Re: sore paws.... Nothing to suggest really,if it was all 4 paws possibly a plant he'd run through?but strange when it's only the back ones....salt water is such a great cure all, give it the treatment and then watch and wait.Ah hope he's ok
Re: sore paws.... He hasn't run through young nettles has he ? Sam doesn't seem to get affected by them but Millies pads look just like this after nettle encounters :
Re: sore paws.... It's possible....we were at Lanhydrock this morning, there was certainly plenty of young nettles around....
Re: sore paws.... What does the skin look like under the fur in between his pads and in between his toes? If it's also red there, then red and itchy paws in a dog with a history of previous ear disease could mean a trip back to Uncle Ewen the dermatologist I fear....
Re: sore paws.... Huh. It's pretty much all gone...normal looking skin between his toes....maybe nettles or something like that then... He definitely has a bit of stiffness in his left leg then though (that doesn't seem to be to do with his paws) so a bit of a rest for Charlie boy, and see how he is tomorrow....
Re: sore paws.... A lazy bank holiday Monday for Charlie maybe... Hope he's back to full batteries soon

V tired after a day of raised voices /shouting with parents who won't wear their hearing aids. Get well soon Charlie xx
Re: sore paws.... Charlie chewed on a battery once and burned his mouth with the battery acid. That's why no battery references for Charlie Nothing wrong with your metaphor otherwise!
Re: sore paws.... ahhh, gotcha I have a memory of reading about that but hadn't linked it to Charlie.
Re: sore paws.... and really hope I haven't offended anyone especially Julie - with my battery related posts - duh - sorry x
