It's not for me. But it is harmless - and if the people and dogs have fun, why not. It takes all sorts.

I don't suppose the animals will suffer too much because of it, but I always think this sort of thing says more about the Attention Seeking nature of the owner, rather than their ability to care for their pets. ???

I wouldn't dream of doing it to my dogs, they are after all dogs! Not advertising boards!

No no no ! Dogs are beautiful creatures, just as they are ! You cant improve a dogs looks by painting it lurid colours. Also, you cant ask a dog if it wants this done to it. There was a programme on recently where this was taken to real extremes, it verged on cruelty, leave those poor dogs alone . Maggie xx

Re: Sorry but I think this is an awful 'fashion' idea

Last night I was with a group of doggie people at the dog club and we were talking about the different characteristics of the different breed groups. One person, who has mastiff types, was relating the way that people react to her dogs in public - with fear, stares, avoidance, pulling their kids out of the way etc. I imagine that that is a constant downer for the dogs who are so good at reading us. But I bet that those colourful dogs don't get that reaction - I bet they get lots of smiles and pats. Thinking of practical applications I bet that a sweet-natured bully-type dog in a shelter with a painted heart or flower on its shoulder would do better at finding a home than one without.

I don't see how this can harm the dogs or be any more invasive than grooming or teeth brushing (the latter being a daily experience for my dog) or any more vain than buying an expensive collar, or taking pride in your dog's good looks or any more unnatural than driving them along in your car. Just my thoughts :)

I very much agree with Rachael. It's not something I would think of to do - probably because I've got other things to do and not enough time. But Charlie wouldn't hate it, he'd love it if he got extra attention and extra smiles and laughs.

For me, it's in the same category as a Christmas hat for the dog - just including them in the fun.
