My apologies for the subject matter .

Since first thing this morning Bud has been basically watering his toilet from both ends. There is no sign of blood, no vomiting, no real lethargy beyond his usual tiredness. He is eating though i am at the moment trying him on chicken and rice. And he is drinking when he feels like a drink. We have been out walking and he is still enjoying his runs. However, i find his activity at the moment scary so figured i would drop a post on here and see if my mind can be put at ease. Any advice or tips very welcome. Thank you. Tony

Hi Tony, pups often suffer from upset tums, mainly due to their habit of picking up and eating gross or forbidden things . You are doing right to offer rice with either chicken, white fish or scrambled eggs , keep him on this for at least 48 hours and if he does refuse water, make sure that the cooked rice is watery to prevent dehydration . If he is still the same in say 24 hours, then Vets just to be on the safe side or sooner if he suddenly takes a turn for the worse and becomes lethargic , get well soon little one x

Thank you Kate. I am normally fairly vigilant in watching if he picks up anything he and i would disagree is edible, but he is quick and sneaky so i don't catch everything. His rice is of a more watery consistency than i would normally make it as i figured it would help. I am glad he is his usual self besides this......i would hate to see him suffering. Thanks again for your time.

Shadow had an icky tummy the other day - very watery consistency. Probably down to the goat poo he snarfled on a walk. I had to get up in the night to let him out, so be aware of that, because he may not be able to hold it if he's still runny. Chicken and rice works wonders. Hope he feels better soon!

Many thanks Fiona. And warm hugs for Shadow. Bud was wonderful through the night and waited until i let him out first thing.....then he provided me with the shock of a lifetime i think as this is his first of this consistency. I will probably keep awake tonight to be on the safe side.x

    Poor Bud.
I agree he might need extra loo trips overnight.
    Hope this settles quickly Tony.

Hope it all settles down quickly. Inca has just recovered from a stomach upset. Hers was the result of some bacteria/parasite she picked up and was quickly sorted by a few drugs from the vet. If the chicken and rice doesn't help I would get Bud down to the vets.

Pro Kolin is wonderful stuff to have in - it helps no end with a runny tum/bum - and I always have a couple of tubes on stand by. But vets if it doesn't clear up soon.

Hope things are better tomorrow. :)

Thank you Jacqui, Laura, and Julie for your advice. Means a lot.

It is now 01.51 Sunday morning and as i am staying up tonight to make sure i don't miss any signs that Bud may need to go out, and also as i want to check on him from time to time as he sleeps guarding our front door, i figured i would give an update. There has been no real change throughout the whole of Saturday, but neither has Bud shown any other signs of poor health. For my own peace of mind i have just come off the phone to our out of hours vet service ( a call very difficult to make given my own anxiety disorder.) It would appear i am doing everything right and at the moment there is no cause for alarm. Bud will be missing breakfast though tomorrow which will probably leave him thinking he is being starved. {I hope the sad look doesn't appear on his face.} We have a clock that signals most hours with different bird song, and when he hears the 8 o'clock blackbird he would be expecting his food. I may need to keep him out of the kitchen until the hour has passed.

The vets advice has then been to continue with small portions of chicken and rice at midday, 4pm and then 8pm, making sure he drinks at least a bowl of water within a 24 hour period. Some kind of improvement would be expected at the latest Monday morning, at which point the details of my phonecall would be on the system for our main veterinary practice and i will likely receive a phonecall to check up on how Bud is. And if need be then an appointment will be made for a personal check up.

As things stand, Bud is sleeping comfortably. That is enough for me to feel relieved and to smile a little. :)

All the advice sounds very positive, Tony. If Bud is comfortable and still wanting his usual eat/sleep/play/walk routine he should probably soon be better. It's always a worry when they're not 'normal', though.

I hope he's had a good night and is showing signs of recovery today. :)

Re: Sorry...no choice but to be blunt.....liquid poo!!!

I agree - when they are not their usual selves then that is even more reason to be concerned. But i am a general worrier i think when it comes to those closest to me, and Bud is part of our family so when something is wrong with him, it effects me emotionally.

He has had a comfortable night - i managed maybe an hours sleep. Have taken him out and he is still walking and running, and jumping up to catch part of his lead so he can carry it with him. It took over half an hour longer for him to finally do his business, and i was extremely anxious, but he has provided the slightest of signs of a gradual recovery. Early days i think and i will stick with the veterinary advice agreed, but i hope the worst is over. Thank you for being there. :)

Glad Bud is recovering from his upset tum.

I would encourage anyone with a dog with diarrhoea to please keep their dog at home whilst they are poorly. Not only is it pretty impossible to pick up diarrhoea in a poo bag but the bug just gets passed on to other people's dogs.

A fair point Chloe, and duly noted. I was advised however by the vets that if Bud is still active then there was no reason to restrict his daily routine. I always take extra water with me to clean the areas he does his business given that, like you say, it is nigh impossible to bag up anything he leaves behind.

Try not to worry too much, puppies do get runny poo from time to time (as do adult dogs). It can be a bug, something they have eaten, or all sort of things. I'm sure he'll be fine. Hopefully today will see an improvement.
