    Hi!

Just wondering if a female that has been spayed can still give off a scent that will still attract males?

Maisie was spayed about 6 weeks ago and over the last week or so I have noticed that the number of male dogs who are interested in more than just a sniff has increased significantly ! She is constantly being humped by both neutered and intact males. Dogs that have never shown any interest in her before are suddenly showing lots of interest in her. She now just sits down promptly as soon as a male approaches ::)

Does anyone know if there is a reason for this behaviour or is it just one of those things that happens?

Sorry no idea, but Lady is spayed and doesn't seem to attract that kind of attention. I expect someone who knows will be along shortly. How annoying. Could it possibly be some kind of dominance thing rather than anything else?

If it continues for another week or so , I would take her back to the Vets . Just remembering that one of my daughters cats had the same problem , and I was discovered that a tiny minute piece of either uterine or ovarian ( sorry cant remember which ) tissue had been left inside the cat . Hoping it isn't the case for you but maybe ring your Vet for a chat , just to be sure ? My girl is spayed and doesn't attract any male attention either x

Thanks Katie. I've just read on-line about bits of ovarian tissue being left behind and causing the fella's to show interest in a spayed female. Lets hope that's not what the problem is! I'll keep an eye on her and then go and see the vet if this continues.

Vespa totally has this problem too. Dogs are all over her and she was spayed two years ago! It never occurred to me that something could have been left behind! I just thought she was gorgeous!

Well Lilly has a problem with a boxer. Called Rocky. A boy with a purple harness.
He would hunt her down half way across the woods and lick her back end constantly if given the chance. I have been known to remove him persistently from her vicinity using my knee
Lilly was spayed before ber first season.
No other dog deplummed or intact does it.
    It is VERY annoying.

Late Molliepops became attractive to the boys we thought it odd but left it a week only to discover some urine infections cause this and she was not well. I would pop along to the vets and see if that is the problem. It was a shock to us how the infection mimicked hormones to attract males.

Re: Spayed, but attracting the lads!

My male is intact and he is very interested in females that have just been spayed. I am very careful with him being unneutered, don't want any unwanted litters! So I immediately intervene if I see him paying any interest, and always ask: Is she spayed? And the answer is invariably: She was just spayed 1 month/2 months/a few weeks ago. So I'd be very interested to know if there is a reason for this. My thoughts were that if the spay happened just after the first heat, then the female might still be giving off some scent. I'm just guessing though.

We have only ever come across two unspayed females who were on heat (separate times) and there was no doubt about that! My boy was like a fire hose out of control, jumping around at the end of his leash and moaning! But immediately removed from the scene and he calmed down. The just-spayed females are very enticing for him, but certainly don't have the same effect as a female on heat.

Interesting about the urinary infection mimicking a heat scent. Could that be the same in males? There are some males that my boy treats as females on heat, licks their nether parts and wants to mount them, goes crazy for two boys (one Lab, one Beagle) we see in the park on a regular basis. In these cases I do not see him wanting to dominate (he does not display any desires to dominate at any other times). I have been told by the owners of these males that other dogs are keen on their males, they want to lick and mount them, too.

Thanks Julie, I think I had better see if I can get her to the vets and see if she has a UTI.
