Well, as most of you know by now I don't actually have a labrador, just spaniels, so this is about my little springer Caddie. I noticed some discharge yesterday and took her into the vets this morning where they scanned her and confirmed that her womb is slightly enlarged. It is not an emergency at this moment but I have decided to have her spayed next week. I am just a little bit sad about this because I had thought about breeding from her. I have had all the relevant DNA tests for springers done and had her hip and elbow scored and eye tested. On top of excellent health screening results she is a cracking little dog and I would have loved a puppy from her for myself. But it is not going to be ... :( Fingers crossed the op goes well next week.

What a little beauty she is... That spaniel look and those eyes say it all!! ;D Sorry you have had to make this decision, as it is obviously not what you had planned or wanted, but I am sure you would only ever make the right choice for Caddie and yourself. All positive vibes being sent out for a successful operation and a quick and full recovery for the lovely girl.

So sorry. That is a shame :(. She is a little beauty.

What is the cause of the problem - some kind of infection? It's good that you noticed it well in time so it's not become too complicated. I'm sure she will come out of it all fine.

So sorry Caddie isn't well. Glad you spotted it in good time though and I hope all goes well.

She's lovely, I can see why you'd like pups from her. Are you in touch with her breeder? Could you get a pup from a sibling, gorgeousness(and good working ability of course!) might be a family trait :)

Hi Barbara, yes I am in touch with her breeder. He is a gundog trainer and very good friend of mine in Sussex. He had actually hoped to get a puppy out of Caddie for himself. He didn't keep a pup from Caddie's litter but was hoping to have a repeat mating and keep one then. Unfortunately that went all wrong and his bitch, Caddie's mum, had to be spayed. He will be very disappointed, I think.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone! :)

Really sorry to hear about Caddie, I had to have my nine year old cocker bitch spayed as an emergency with pyometra a few months ago, and it was a very scary experience. It is good that you have caught the problem at an early stage. Hope all goes well for her.

I hope the op goes smoothly. Sad that you can't have her babies as planned but a good thing that you spotted this so early.
