Chepi is squinting one eye. She was fine on her walk and has only started squinting since we got in. I have popped in some antibiotic eye drops I had for her which I had been keeping in the fridge. Having googled it I am now worried that she should see a vet today (Sunday). I was going to just see if it improved by the morning. Any advice?
Re: Squinting Could she have got something in her eye Jane ? Does she seem distressed at all ? If not , then I would think morning should be ok but definitely keep a close watch on it to make sure it isn't weeping or looking sore, in which case, ring for advice , hoping she will be fine soon .
Re: Squinting Poor Chepi, eyes are so painful even with a bit of dirt in them, I hope you are okay Jane x
Re: Squinting She had anaesthetic drops first, washed the eye and under the third eye and coloured drops to see if it was damaged. Her eye was not damaged. She possibly had particles in there somewhere or it could be conjunctivitus (which she has had before but I have never seen her squeezing her eye shut before). So, I will give her antibiotic drops again at bed time and hope it settles quickly. The vet said it was right to bring her in and it didn't take much to see that it was really sore. It puzzles me a bit because it seemed to happen quite suddenly. Home now, she did huge poos when she got in, must have been a reaction to the dhole thing at the vets'. I could hear her yelping (they took her out the back - never a good sign!) and I was nearly in tears. She's sleeping next to me now. Hopefully she will look better in the morning. ... And relax
Re: Squinting Fingers crossed it heals quickly x it is horrible hearing them yelping at the vets - I'm glad they go out the back for some things as I wouldn't be back to cope with it!
Re: Squinting Glad you are both home Jane and you got Chepi's eye sorted so quickly, hope the ABs kick in quickly. Poor little love get better soon xxx :'(
Re: Squinting Well I am glad I took her. I googled it first and the result was not to delay seeking treatment; if her eye was damaged or she had something in there then going more than 12 hours is very risky. I wouldn't have forgiven myself if I failed her in that way.
Re: Squinting Ah Jane you did the right thing....if in doubt give the vet a shout .... Hope the meds relieve it for her ,good on your vigilance for noticing, eyes can go wrong quickly and seriously as Kate and. Heidrun can attest :'(
Re: Squinting Her eye looks normal today so I think she must have had particles stuck in there somewhere.
Re: Squinting I'm so glad things seem to be ok. But yelping at the vets? I'm surprised about that. I'd be astonished if my dog yelped at the vets. He cried coming round from major surgery, but apart from something like that, I'd expect any vet with a decent training in sensitive handling of animals to go about things in a way that didn't require yelping...
