Yay, at last, we're starting agility lessons with Willow and Shadow. It starts tonight and we go twice a week for about fifteen individual sessions, until we're ready to join the group. Really looking forward to it, although it's a shame that it's almost an hour away from home!
Individual sessions sound good. Bet they'll love it. I have a feeling Red will enjoy agility - the other 3 dogs on our Scentwork do it and she has watched very excitedly. She has done the tunnel and will be trying the bendy tunnel soon. When she's older she will get to try the other things. If I ask her to 'weave' and give a hand signal she goes round my legs or chair legs so I reckon she'll like the weave poles. I probably won't have the physical stamina to run round with her . Enjoy .
Something to involve your grandchildren with? @snowbunny , sounds great, I hope you enjoy it. Like Emily I wonder when or if yoy sleep at all?
Oh have fun! I am half tempted with Bramble Benson really enjoyed his lessons, he wasn't that good though! This always makes me laugh! Benson in France...and Elaine doing everything to try and encourage him away from the tunnels, he had his GoPro on. Needless to say he just couldn't resist, dived into the tunnels and ended up with the blimmin thing hanging from his bottom! You can just see Elaine's horrified expression at the end!
Hehe, yes, tunnels are like black holes, sucking Labradors in! I really thought Willow would hate the tunnel, but she was obsessed! Shadow is a natural and Willow just gets hugely over-excited and is incapable of holding a sit. Of course, I let J handle Shadow as he's easier, while I look like the dick with the uncontrollable dog A few weeks ago, we went to see a competition at the club we're joining. There was a lady there who had had polio, who had very limited mobility and walked with crutches. She just stood pretty much in one spot and directed her dog from there
That's the way I'll do it....if that doesn't work then..... .......I think my 10 year old grandson would be able to give it a go - Red loves him.
Great video! The music makes it. Brogan loved Agility, though he was not agile. The instructor had him do the same size hurdles and A frame as the mini dachshund in the class.
Ah, we had a lovely time! Our instructor, Miriam, is really sweet. W&S loved it and we were doing some fairly complex (I thought!) mini courses by the end. Body language is everything and soooooo hard to get right!! Miriam also talks at 1,000,000 words per minute, and I'm not sure who was more exhausted through sheer concentration by the time we got home! Back again Wednesday, yay!
Hehe, J would go first with Shadow, and I could so clearly see what needed to be done. Walk in the park, I thought. Then it was my go.... ah. Towards the end, Miriam ran the course with Willow. She did it perfectly. Tunnel, jumps left and right, table... no problem. I would like to say I had a hand in that, but, sadly, no
By the way, @Atemas, when Miriam worked Willow, she hardly moved. A huge difference to me, red-faced and panting around the course
That is interesting! I am thinking of revisiting agility with Benson, and trying to work more remotely with him.
That's interesting. I know nothing about agility but having observed the other 3 dogs and owners it looks highly energetic. I need to learn more so when the time comes, I can give it a fair shot without totally destroying my arthritic knees .
Miriam was explaining it's all about the body language. For smaller dogs, it's how you present your lower legs; for Labs, it's more your shoulders. Get that right, and everything else follows. Sounds easy, right?
