    Hi to you all,

My choc. Lab Latte is set free to walk this Monday( 3 months old)and I have a questions for all who know. I am a bit concerned when I am walking with the dog, as to what action I can legally take if I or my wife or Latte is attacked by another dog. We back onto woods and there are a few dog walkers around but it crossed my mind what action I can take if the situation gets ugly. Thanks
    Ron

Hi Ron, and welcome to the forum :) :)
I would advise you to allow Latte off lead as soon as possible , their recall can be far more easily learned when they are very young .
I would also advise that, whilst not saturating Latte with other dogs , you do allow her/him to socialise as much as possible so that you dont end up with a fearful dog .
It is very rare for another dog to attack a puppy , also Labradors are not on the whole confrontational dogs so will rarely give out wrong messages to other dogs . Try to relax , your puppy will be taking its cue from you , if you are anxious , your puppy will sense it and above all, have fun :)

Try not to worry, I can honestly say that in 40 years of dog owning I have never been attacked (up to this moment!) and my dogs only once in a blue moon and it was all mouth and trousers, just dogs doing what dogs do, no teeth marks. If you get uptight, this will be picked up by your pup and make him alert and wary.

Second the others. Normal dogs will not usually hurt a puppy. They may bowl him over, if the puppy is too boisterous, but generally speaking puppies have a built-in protection system! And it is vital that your puppy learn how to socialize now - the window before he becomes more fearful is only about another four weeks, so you really do need to get out and about with him as much as possible.

Oops - is Latte a girl? Kept referring to a boy… Lovely name anyway. :)

Hi, Guys thank you so much for the replies on my first post. Latte is in fact a boy, and we hope to get another puppy, black, in about 5/6 months time and he will be called Mocha. As for socialising I take him to the quay/beach every day for an hour to meet anyone who comes to say hello, and I must say he is a real magnet. He sits in the back of the CRV and takes all around him in his stride. On Monday he will be allowed out and on the ground for the first time which is pretty exciting and on Wednesday he is enrolled for 4 weeks in puppy training classes, which I assume will be pretty mental. Thanks also for the tips on walking, I am sure that both of us will learn the ropes very quickly. Any advice you experts have will be soaked up like a sponge.!! Thanks for all the love out there!! x :)

    Have fun ;D

Do let him off lead, no matter what other people say to you. I got told that mine would run off and i'd never see her again, i was so glad i had had the belief in what i'd read to ignore it. she's under the desk right here and has never absconded.

Have fun at the puppy classes! :) It will be hugely distracting and exciting for him, so don't expect too much - just have a great time! And take lots and lots of extremely desirable treats (like roast chicken and bbq'd steak cut in tiny pieces).
