Poor lad , both myself and the Vet are convinced that its an environmental allergy , its always on the inside of his legs and his chest which points to something he is running through . So , the choice is a course of fairly low dose steroids or keep him out of woodlands, fields etc for the duration , which isn't an option , he just isn't a pavement plodder, not long term anyway . I also bought a wash for him , its an old established company , the wash is based on oils such as tea tree and lavender , its used post walk to wash pollens off his legs and chest . It might be a coincidence but his skin looks calmer after using it , so we shall see , hoping the steroids help him as they did last summer , he is on a low dose as the does he can have makes him pee , a lot
Poor man, it is no fun being itchy. Glad the wash seems to help. We find that bathing Obi helps quite a lot (we use Malaseb wash).
I have malaseb shampoo too Rachael , but it didn't do any good , so decided to go down the herbal wash route , I guess the main thing is that the legs are washed free of pollen, its horrible for them, downright miserable
Oh poor Sam. I think washing helps - Charlie gets itchy eyes from the London plane trees (we wade through the debris from these trees at this time of year) and being diligent about wiping his eyes and head after walks definitely helps.
Poor Sam. I hope the steroids and wash help stop the itch. It must be very annoying for him. CSJ do neem soap and neem oil which is supposed to help with itchy skin and hair loss as well as other skin complaints. It is also anti fungal, repels biting insects and can be used on sensitive skin like around the eyes.
Yes they did , made a massive difference in just a couple of days , so fingers crossed ! We have just come home from a walk so out came the dreaded bucket and sponge with " the rinse " but he didn't mind today as its warm out , not known for his bravery our Sam
Poor old chap. And poor old you. I hope the herbs help. Many of the old remedies are very effective for minor problems.
Thank you all , its only a low dose of steroids, half of what he could have had, but its knocked him for six , wish there was an effective alternative , at least its only a short course x
Ah I'm sorry he's had a flare up ,poor Sam,sounds like the treatment is giving him relief and has stopped it escalating xxx
I had to smile , the Vet was a new one, very young and lovely . When she had a good look at Sam , she remarked that his coat in general was lovely, thick and lustrous but " felt a little bit oily " , well that's a Lab coat for you
