Nelly doesn't need surgery on her left knee , yayyyyy ! Vet Sue gave her a thorough going over this afternoon and declared that the troublesome joint is much improved . She attributes this to the glucosamine and chondroitin supplement plus a general building up of exercise, both of which have improved the previously rubbish muscles , so that they have wrapped around the knee joint and are supporting it well . Her back end joints will always be poor, but it is a massive relief that she doesn't need surgical intervention , phew . I had a chat about the recurrence of the OCD behaviour , Vet agrees that Sams passing will have been enough to bring her anxieties back to the fore , that this deep rooted behaviour pattern is never far from the surface and it doesn't take much to spark it up again . It is only nine weeks since Sam died and as Sue rightly said , even if she is no longer missing him, she is lamenting the altering of the dynamics , so its time , that old healer . We could medicate her, but I don't want to as I worry that she might become zombified , so we will continue to distract her .
All in all a good visit , she only requires metacam very occasionally , not enough to cause any concerns but will have bloods taken just to be sure at her next visit in about six to nine months time xx

Oh that is such good news Kate! So pleased for you all. What a relief!!! And well done for all your work with Nelly, gently increasing her exercise has clearly strengthened her muscles. Wonderful.

What great news! Always such a worry, but now you can relax a bit. Hopefully little one’s OCD will settle soon as well.
