Ours have perfected that look, the one where they know that they arent coming with us ::)

They will watch us get changed , looks of anticipation , but then certain moves are a giveaway that they arent invited , one being me getting my handbag at the ready ( a rare move ) and then decent shoes instead of boots or wellies . Then their expressions change completely as the realisation dawns , loading on the guilt but hanging around by the front door, just in case , staring at the porch where the leads hang . Once told to go to bed, they will do so immediately with proper hang dog looks on faces ::)

O yes! Charlie can tell the difference between "walking" shoes and clothes, and "work" (you are abandoning me) shoes and clothes.

"In your bed" and then a pile of kongs and goodie bones left. He picks one up but doesn't start eating it, and then stares at me, all forlorn, pitifully sad, until I close the kitchen door. But I know, because I've filmed him, that he is stuffing his face with that kong before I've got the alarm on, and the front door locked! ;D ;D ;D

This is going back to the commands your dogs know thread. Amy knows " go to bed, I need to get the boys"

I'm right there with you Kate......
Lilly definitely knows the "walk" trousers and socks as opposed to the work ones :(

    ;D ;D

Yup, Simba gives the kong a forlorn look now, as well, won't even touch it (until I go, of course), sometimes I swear his lower lip is trembling.....

Mine is so far advanced with 'The Look' that when we are having dinner, she won't even look in our direction any more. She lies on her bed staring AWAY from us, and sighing heavily from time to time... Now THAT is emotional blackmail perfected to a really high level!

The sighs! How do they know to do that? It's such a human thing to do - and it's not like it's random either. It's full of meaning and "woe is me, poor deprived labrador here, can't you see what you are doing to me? When just a sliver of that roast chicken would make it all right again...". ;D ;D ;D
