Hi all, I've got a 7 week old black Labrador and the breeder had him on Bakers Complete puppy. Is this any good, from what I've read, no!? What's better than Bakers?

For what it is worth, our breeder recommended (and sent us home with a bag of) CSJ puppy food. It seems to be fantastic stuff (and no additives or nasties). You can buy online - I think the website is csjk9.com
    Our puppy loves it.

Harley has Royal Canin gastro as she had really soft poos when we got her as she was on not good food.
There have been quite a few conversations on this forum around food.....I think it's in the puppy section :)

My dogs were weaned onto CSJ command performance. They did very well on it and I then moved them onto CSJ command performance adult.

If you ring them or email them (quicker to ring) they will send samples and will be able to tell you if you have a local stockist. They are very helpful and will answer any questions you have about diet. I used to get mine off the Internet but I now have it delivered by their stockist near me.

Our breeder raises all her pups on Burns, so we have continued to feed Benson on Burns Original Puppy.Good quality feed, apparently a little lower protein but the breeder suggested that this suits her as she doesn't want the dogs to grow too quickly. We feed slightly under the amounts recommended as he does get a lunchtime Kong and training treats. Stools have never been a problem, firm consistency and we certainly have a healthy puppy!

I can get this also with free delivery from Titmus at a very competitive price :) Any treats or wet food for his Kong we buy from Bob and Lush, Benson will do ANYTHING for their venison sausage treats! :D

I would never ever recommend anyone feed Bakers.

I've seen many dogs brought into rescue kennels because their owners could no longer cope with their behaviour. You ask what they are being fed on... Bakers. You get them in a kennel, change their food and within two weeks you have a totally different dog.
Not only is bakers full of poor ingredients and some that have been known to cause cancer, it's also full of stuff that has been proven to cause hyperactivity in children and has been banned for use in human foods.

Seems very odd though as it's made by Purina who also do a very good food on the other end of the scale...

Anyway, food is a very confusing subject. What works well for one person may be not so great for another, so it's about what your dog can tolerate, what you can afford, and what gives the best results in terms of health. For example my dog is doing amazingly well on Arden Grange, however another dog might not be able to tolerate it and have constant diarrhoea.
For what it's worth I would recommend anything like Arden Grange, James Wellbeloved, Orijen etc.

    Hi there Boycie,

I was given a 15kg sack of CSJ Little Champ puppy food by my breeder when I brought Lily home and she is doing well on it; the brand seems to be very well regarded. The local dealer gave me some samples for my mum's dog free of charge and I was able to check out some of the other complementary items CSJ do when I visited him. I bought a 500ml Salmon Oil (1 pump per day with dinner for <12kg dog, as Lily is at almost 16 weeks) and she seems to be thriving. Her coat is really silky for a yellow lab and poos firm and easy to pick up... Before I brought Lily home I hadn't really thought about the cost of dog food further than how much the supermarket stuff costs but I was really pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced the CSJ is.

    Hope this helps,

    Amanda

It also depends on what CSJ you get as the basic has a lot of wheat which dogs cannot process.

I found Lola's food by searching on http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk

We chose Arden Grange in the end. It's good quality and not bad price either. We get it delivered to our door cause no pet shops nearby stock it. Zooplus.co.uk deliver for free if you spend over £25

You are right to question Bakers. It has loads of sugars in it.

Hi, Hattie is 6 years old and Charlie is 3 years and I am just about to change from CSJ to Ardens Grange which is much better quality containing meat suitable for human
consumption. Bakers is pure rubbish and I would never feed it to my dogs. Good luck it's so difficult this food business :)
