OK, it's my fault. Many months ago I trained Holly to fetch my slippers when I come home. Being the good, caring, dog that she is she always shakes my slippers to make sure that they're dead before she gives them to me. Once, just once, I made the mistake of taking it off her before the shake. Ever since then she's had the idea that slippers could be toys, not just something to fetch. A few weeks ago I got out of bed and a slipper was missing. A search revealed that it was by Holly's bed. I thought nothing of it, put on the slipper and carried on. A few days later Holly did her normal "Hi, the alarms gone off and I'm bursting and hungry" routine. I got out of bed, and she grabbed a slipper and ran off with it. Dog 1 me 0. This carried on for a few days, with me making grabs for the slipper before she could get it. Eventually I twigged that, if I put it out of reach, she couldn't get it. Dog 1 me 1. So I went to work and left my slippers beside the bed. When I came home one slipper was in Holly's bed. She must have sneaked upstairs while I was at work and stolen it. Dog 2 me 1. I learned that, when I go to work, I have to leave my slippers out of reach. When I get home I have to get them out so she can fetch them for me. This is beginning to get self-defeating as the whole game is about her fetching my slippers, not me getting them out of hiding so she can fetch them. Last weekend I got some new slippers as the old ones were wearing out. I've (cunningly) left the old ones by my bedroom door for her to steal during the day. I leave the new ones in the shoe rack and she quite happily fetches them for me when I come home. Dog 2 me 2. How long will it be before she realises that she's been conned, and starts to steal my new slippers?
Re: The slipper wars..... She hasn't been conned - at all. She's just working out how to maximise the situation...I'll give it a week before you're paying her for the slippers. ;D
Re: The slipper wars..... Lol, she's just keeping you thinking that you've won, then she will get a point back when you let your guard down
Re: The slipper wars..... I sympathise. Over in this household we have the Croc Conflict. Really, South Wales is a war zone.
