So, Northern Germany has got more ticks than trees and it's getting silly. I'm having to tick check Teddy every night and treat him every three weeks. I have just found an amber necklace which the pet store lady swears by. Anybody ever heard of this before? What do you guys do to prevent ticks?

Forget the Amber necklace, it is superstitious rubbish. I swear by Bravecto tablets, though the ticks have to attach first before they are killed. Some people like Scalibor collars, which are effective but highly poisonous to any aquatic life, so if Teddy goes in water then not really ecologically sound.

We have a few fishing lakes near the place we are moving to later this year so may well get in bother if I start killing the fishies.

On the plus side, if I went with the amber necklace (probably won't as your the third person to say it's rubbish) at least he will look like a surf dude, now that's a good look

I Ilive in the USA and we have the Seresto collar $50 +/- that lasts eight months....I have it on my pup (granted, he is almost white so ticks easy to detect).don't know where you live but you might look into it. I used to do the liquid on his back but that was always sticky and messy.....collar makes more sense. If your pup goes into the water, you can take the collar off and then remember to put it back on!

I use Advantix, which is applied to the skin monthly. The ticks do not attach at all. It does wear off if your dog is constantly in the water, apparently.

I'm not sure that a perfect solution actually exists!

We use Nexgard here in the UK..a chewable tablet given once a month, so no risk to aquatic life or our cats as the topical ones are toxic to cats also.
So far no ticks, and Benson was getting them almost daily.
