As usual I went to Snuff Mills today my daughter us back from uni for a month , so she came with us. Anyway, a few parents allowed their children walk towards Harley so I called out 'she might jump up, she's a pup and isn't used to little children' to which 2 out of the 3 held their child's hand and asked if they could just watch her jumping in and out of the water....of course I said yes. Both parents thanked me for letting them know and helped a bit with our training the other was very different......said I should keep her on lead then and stormed if!! Some people ??? Finally, in and out the water we go, Harley lost her ball in the deeper water again! Fell in and got back out. I thought we lost that one.......Harley then paced up and down the ledge in the water then kept up and swan into the deep part, retrieved her ball and brought it back......of course lots of rewards and praise....so proud of my baby
Re: Today Clever girl!!! Very proud moment So glad you had a lovely day (notwithstanding Cranky Lady).
Re: Today Yay!! See it just took a taste of being in the water last time and now she knows what to do! You won't be able to keep her out of it now! Don't worry about that one parent who stormed off, you did everything right, you can't please everyone. At the end of the day, if they're going to take their kids somewhere like that they have to expect to see some dogs running around.
Re: Today This is just how I see it. Kids and dogs will 'try it on' and misbehave. It is our job as adults/owners to teach them how to behave. If I see a dog owner/parent trying, not necessarily succeeding, I mentally cut them a lot of slack. It takes time to teach anything. It's the ones who ignore their little darlings, be they human or canine that annoy me.
