Great article- I couldn't agree more!!

Walking my dog would have been horrific if she'd never learnt to retrieve  With her cheetah-like turn of speed, over-enthusiasm for playing with other dogs, natural inquisitiveness and strong personality, without retrieving games to play we'd have had two options; 'kept on the lead' or 'menace to society' !!

As it is, we can walk in quite well-populated areas and even risk things like busy beaches, she gets loads of exercise and running around for a quite modest energy outlay on my part and I don't have to apologise to other people anywhere near as often as I would otherwise! ;D ;D ;D

We did try SO hard for almost 3 years but it just didn't happen for Charlie much to our huge disappointment. Nothing would give us greater pleasure than to see Charlie retrieve and return to us with a ball/dummy :'( x

Super lucky here with Edsel. He is a retrieving maniac. The only thing we've had to work at with him is a nice stop and putting the object politely in your hand. And waiting for the next throw. He will retrieve anything, anywhere until we make him stop. To the point I can't effectively weed the garden with him. I normally toss the weeds, sticks etc into the creek along our property, but Edsel consistently returns them to me! He never ceases to make me laugh!
