Poor Poppy - she injured herself today in the woods and has ripped a toenail out. :( Bootie on foot and off games for a couple of weeks. Poor girl...

Poor girl , Sam sends licks, he had to have one removed a year ago, it hurts :( I didn't cover the wound as recommended by the Vet, just washed his whole paw in cooled boiled salt water after every trip outdoors, but maybe hers is more sore with being ripped out, ouch :(

Poor Poppy. Willow did this last year, and it seemed to take forever to heal. She clearly remembers because she was a lot more sensitive about having that foot held for nail filing.
Is the quick still there? We tried different options for covering her foot when out and about, but none of them worked. It didn't help that it was during winter, with lots of snow around. The snow seemed to set it off bleeding again. Very tiresome. We just cleansed it with betadine after each walk.

I don't know exactly what it looks like, OH just called on his mobile from the woods and took Pops straight into the vets, so I am getting info secondhand. I know she has bandaging and a bootie on for now, and has to go back in two days.

Naturally, we had a full two days of training lined up this weekend - a Team Training Workshop. Aargh. Now I have to see if I can find someone else to take my place, and even then it's still jolly disappointing for me and for my two other teammates. Ah well, cant be helped. :(

Poor little Pops. I'm just leaving now and will see how she is doing at home.

Well, it's worth having a look at how she is. It didn't really slow Willow down at all when she did hers. She didn't limp even when it was bleeding. It was mainly at home when she was settled that she would fuss it, licking at it, and she hated having it bathed - the salt water and betadine clearly made it sting.

I assume your training will be pretty hardcore compared to what we do, but if it's not too physical and she's not in pain, you could try taking her along to see how she is.

    Sorry to hear this.

It happened to my old dog and it took ages and quite a lot of Vet's bills to clear up. However she was an old dog so wouldn't have healed so well.

    Poor girl!!!

I agree with Snowbunny - see how she is. In the scheme of things it's a minor injury (though I'm sure it hurt). Dogs seem to pull claws pretty easily - they are not as well anchored as ours.

Well, she's feeling pretty sorry for herself! Apparently she and OH went to have a look at a local castle - she trotted up the steps, which were made of metal grid. OH called her back down and somehow as she twisted and jumped down the claw got stuck and she tripped and fell down the steps falling onto her back, leaving her claw in the grid... Lots of blood and drama, but she's ok. It could have been a lot worse - she could have sprained her foot or injured herself much more seriously.

We definitely can't do this weekend's training, it would be far too much - vet says it'll take a couple of weeks until the nail bed is covered enough for her to charge around without pain. We'll just have to cuddle on the couch and watch Telly together!

Ouch! Lucan did the same last year, he left my kitchen, the car, the vet's waiting and consulting rooms looking as though there'd been a chainsaw massacre, there was so much blood! Bleeding eventually stopped, wound cleaned and bandaged, it healed really well although was quite sore for several weeks. He made a really good job of it as his nail has never grown back.

    Hope Poppy heals quickly. x

Now she won't pee!! I've been out in the garden with her for over 20 minutes and she just looked sad and abused... She hasn't had a pee since this afternoon...

Nope. Of course she won't pee. She has a bandage on her paw. No self respecting Labrador will pee with a bandage on his or her paw.

OK, she finally peed this morning. At 10:30 our time. That's 18 hours after her last one!

She was obviously in some discomfort this morning, but the painkillers have kicked in now and I think she is just very fed up at wearing the bandage / bootie. Ah well, it will pass.
