Our new 8 week female pup has an interesting habit when weeing. She goes for one long wee then several more wees after. Our first girl never did this... Is it just a developmental stage?

This is pretty normal with puppies but it usually indicates quite a full bladder because the bladder didn't empty fully the first wee... So you might want to take her out more frequently and give her more opportunities to relieve herself. 8 week pups only have tiny bladders and can't hold on for long.

I have another toilet training question. We have an 11.5 week old lab puppy. We are still trying to sort out toilet training. One issue we are having is him not going for a wee when we let him out as he is too distracted. We have a very large rural garden and he is now not scared in the garden and will run off having fun and not go for a wee. Sometimes he does go straight out for a wee in his wee area. We had an outside pen for him but he could escape it. So we put a lid on it but he managed to escape from that as well. Does anyone know if we should sometimes take him out on a lead? To maybe keep him calmer and more likely to go for a wee? Or any other ideas? Thank you!

This is exactly why you need to keep the leash on, when you take the pup out to toilet - and stand in a specific spot which comes to smell of toilet smells, encouraging the pup to go quicker. He only gets to go off leash, once he has toileted. No toilet, back inside and back in his crate for another 10mins to prevent him from going indoors instead...

Thank you for the reply! We haven’t had him on the lead yet at all and he doesn’t wear a collar or harness. Any thoughts on collar or harness and normal lead or slip lead for his wee trips? Thank you!!

It's important to get puppies used to collars and harnesses and leads at a young age - it is part of socialisation and you may find they really object and hate the equipment if you don't introduce this early enough.

For toilet trips outside, my pups wear a harness and have a puppy house line clipped to the harness which they trail behind them any time they are out of the crate: https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Compan...VXVSPB6AB93&psc=1&refRID=B4E3XFA65VXVSPB6AB93

That enables you to grab it quickly and encourage the pup outside without having to attach leads etc.

Thank you for the advice. We did have a harness and lead on him when he was littler but had stopped using it. He now has this back on for during the day and trips outside. Much easier to manage him.

Thank you for your time to reply!
