Lola and my son are joined at the hip (they spend every waking minute chasing each other and playing toy story, Stephen is woody and Lola is bullseye, obviously!) and Lola throws toys at him to get him to play. Yesterday she was carrying around her favourite toy (an ice cream tub she has chewed to death!) and she accidentally poked my son in the eye with it and because he was crying Lola jumped up at him to see if he was ok and my other half panicked. He told her off and shoved her away and I went ballistic! Stephen was fine, I knew straight away he was fine, I can read him like a book! I still can't believe my other half's reaction. She looked so sad bless her :'( Am I over reacting?
Re: Told off for an accident It's so tricky isn't it. My OH worries about the dog and Lizzie but Riley's really quite careful. Accidents do happen though, I don't let Riley have a rawhide chew as it's exactly eye height I try and encourage OH to have patience with Riley and remind him he's just a young dog and a softie to boot
Re: Told off for an accident I think it's easy to forget she's just a baby cause she is so big! I was so cross with him :-\ I don't think she understood why she was being told off either. I am super protective of both my babies especially when it comes to discipline. I'm the firm but fair one and usually he just leaves it to me
Re: Told off for an accident These things happen... Hope your son is settled now. Lola will be fine She may have just been worried about all the commotion. Don't worry
Re: Told off for an accident On the odd occasion Harley has hurt me (usually my neck or shoulders) she comes over to give me kisses and sits by me until I can move again My hubby used to tell her off, but now she isn't so rough with me I think it's difficult with kids as you want to protect them, but pup needs to learn too
Re: Told off for an accident As you realised Lola will have jumped up to see what the matter was with Stephen, my old lab used to get very concerned if somebody was crying, but I can understand why your OH told her off especially if he didnt realise this isn't an unusual thing for dogs to do. I bet Lola had forgotten all about it in 5 minutes. However had it been my OH I would've told him that he didn't need to shout. I tell him that quite a lot anyway. He doesn't really understand the best way to deal with the dogs if they aren't doing what he wants so he ends up repeating over and over getting louder and more frustrated. It drives me nuts. Not surprisingly the dogs have learned to tune out his voice. :. Unfortunately I can't.
Re: Told off for an accident That is what Lola has started to do most of the time. He tells me she is a mummies girl and I kinda have to agree : He grew up with dogs but never really got involved with training, I think he expects her to just know without learning! She spent all day Thursday sat with Stephen cause he's been poorly recently, only leaving him to go pee and eat ;D
Re: Told off for an accident Beautiful photos, Lola is stunning and I hope Stephen is feeling better poor love xx
Re: Told off for an accident I think perhaps your OH just had a knee jerk reaction, as your little boy was crying because he had been hurt. We can all get a little panicked where dogs and children are concerned and even the best of us are a little harsh with our dogs sometimes. It's with the benefit of hindsight that we learn. I'm sure Lola had forgotten all about it soon enough.

Just as it should be. ;D
He even has conversations with her using a silly voice for Lola's part ;D Today they were talking about which toys are his and how mummy said Lola can't have people food lol I think we both over reacted really
Beautiful photos, Lola is stunning and I hope Stephen is feeling better poor love xx
He's got an on/off fever but seems well enough, thank you for asking x
I'm sure Lola had forgotten all about it soon enough.
She did, it was just that moment where she looked so sad and confused :'( she did lots of fussing over Stephen when he stopped crying. Two peas in a pod they are!
