Maisie has torn one of her toe nails and it's going to have to be removed tomorrow. She's had antibiotics and is generally feeling sorry for herself. I have to take her in at 10am tomorrow, which means no breakfast! How on earth are we going to get through until we go to the vets without something to eat? How have other people managed this, as she will be going nuts without any food! Also, she is doing lots of whining at me since we got back from the vets this afternoon, could the antibiotics be making her feel "off"?
Re: Torn Toe nail Poor Maisie, that must be very sore for her and yes, antibiotics can make them feel " off the hooks " , this coupled with the soreness which must hurt . I can sympathise re the no breakfast regime, my terrier wouldnt be at all bothered, but Lab Sam was mortified when he had to skip breakfast when he had the snip, poor you too
Re: Torn Toe nail Oh yes, Charlie had quite a few "no breakfast" mornings! They do think the world has ended. But forget all about it once they get dinner.
Re: Torn Toe nail Oh poor Maisie. Bess had to be sedated for x-rays last week. She watched me eat every mouthful of my breakfast with those pleading eyes and I resolved next time I would smuggle my breakfast out of the kitchen and not eat in front of her. Good luck Alice
Re: Torn Toe nail Poor Maisie, but you'll just have to harden your heart I'm afraid. Too risky to feed before a GA. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.
Re: Torn Toe nail Hope the op,goes well, hope, you don't get tortured too much with the starved dog stare!Dexter could win prizes for the suffering eyes when his meal is delayed never mind missed altogether! Do,you know how she hurt her toe? X
Re: Torn Toe nail Poor Maisie. Yes if she isn't too sore to walk, that will take her mind off no food.
Re: Torn Toe nail Good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you and Maisie. Let us know how she is x
Re: Torn Toe nail Good luck, hope all is going well today and Maisie will be home some and most importantly..eating!
Re: Torn Toe nail Hope Maisie is ok. One of my dogs had to have his toenail removed as it was split and didn't heal but kept splitting further and further into the nail bed. It grew back beautifully with no repercussions.
Re: Torn Toe nail Hi, no news yet! When we arrived at the vets this morning, they had had quite a few emergencies in so I had to leave her and I'm waiting for a call to collect her later this afternoon. Oh those pleading eyes for breakfast this morning : !!!
Re: Torn Toe nail My girl is home and feeling very sorry for herself The op went well and she has a lovely red bandage up to her knee. She is not happy though, lots of whining, crying and "grumping" noises. Not at all settled and keeps walking from room to room. She's just had a little food which she ate very slowly, think her throat must be sore. Back for bandage change on Saturday. Trust the weather to be wet when she has a bandage on her foot, typical!
Re: Torn Toe nail When my Lab's nail was removed and bandaged and I was told to keep his foot dry, it was in the winter when it rained every day! I bought a boot but that wasn't very successful. I think I put cling film round the bandage and a plastic bag over that! Good luck
Re: Torn Toe nail ah, the sedation can really put them out - it wears off quick though. Hope you manage in the wet!
