Hi Everyone, After having some problems with Ozzie's recall, we have got Total Recall book to help us and him. We are currently on Ex 4 of Pre-Recall for Older Dogs as he is nearly 10months old. I am being a bit by the book with this because I want Ozzie to be able to run free but come back under control when needed. But I have a question, we sometimes walk him with two other labradors (both older 5 and 4) and he loves to run riot and play with them, but since doing this training in the book, we haven't walked with them, but they have asked us to go with them on Friday & Sunday on some beautiful walks, now I am a little confused as to what to do, as I haven't been letting him off his long line or lead while I have been out and about as his recall is terrible and he just completely ignores me and I have been on my own while OH has been working aboard for most of January, but if we go with them this weekend, is he allowed off his long line? or have I got this all wrong by keeping him on his long line? I seem to have my self in a bit of a pickle and I am doubting my self with what I am doing? If he is with them and they get recalled back he does come with them back to us all but wouldn't if he was on his own. My OH is now home for a few weeks so we will be both with him, and obviously he has come back in the middle of Part 1 recall and I have made him follow my instructions and given him the book to read as well, but he is currently very snowed under with his own work and is only manage to read a couple of pages here and there. Katie - one confused owner now haha!
Re: Total Recall Training Book HELP? If this were me , I would use the opportunity to your advantage . You say that he will come back when the other dogs are called back ? If so , when he is coming towards you , give your recall command and make a massive fuss of him , ask your friends if maybe they will recall their dogs every so often so that Ozzie will learn from them by copying them . Recall is always best used when the dog is actually coming towards you and not when they are not doing , so this could be a golden opportunity to have some fun and learn at the same time , good luck
Re: Total Recall Training Book HELP? Well, if he comes back when recalled with the others then I'd beinclined to let him have a good run around and burn off some energy.
Re: Total Recall Training Book HELP? Katie, I have merged these two topics into one thread, so it is easier for everyone to follow the questions and advice. As you can see, Kate and I both feel the same way, though she has expressed it better than me! Ozzie sounds like huge fun, though a bit of a challenge! My mum is working her way through Total Recall with her new rescue dog too.
Re: Total Recall Training Book HELP? Hi Katie, I worked through Total Recall with my rescue dog Charlie as he had zero recall and he too was on a long training line, but he's much better now I would also suggest as well as the great advise already given, that you whistle recall Ozzie between two people giving him treats on his return to you. Also hide behind trees, bushes etc. and recall him, Charlie loves this game and always runs back to find us to lots of praise and treats I hope you have a lovely time and lots of great recalls xxx

Re: Total Recall Training Book HELP? Thanks everyone. We will give it a go, just on question what should we do if he goes to ith the other dogs to their owners and not us? Thanks again Katie - a happier owner
