Hi, long time since I've posted here but I'm the proudest dog owner, all thanks to the book total recall. Cupar is 4 years old now and he's still the love of my life and for the first time in 30 years of having dogs, he has total recall, thanks to Total recall by Pippa Mattinson, groups like this and all the dog trainers that give their time to post help in how to train a dog to come back when called. Cupar recalled from chasing a RABBIT, one call of his name and he put on the brakes and came back at his usual ( I don't know if I can stop speed). He's not a dog who runs away but he is a dog if allowed, would look for his own entertainment, he tried to chase the birds, so where there is likely to be birds, he has to walk beside me, I carry his all time favourite thing in the world,a ball on a rope, so when he's done some work he gets a couple of throws of the ball ( this is something else that has to be managed for health reasons.) I work daily on his recall but I don't do any training with my dogs, I have changed my philosophy with regards to 'training' and just enjoy spending time with my dogs and reward them for their behaviour. So thank you to any dog trainer that gives advice on forums like this and thank you Pippa Mattinson for a book that is written in a way that I managed to stick with it and didn't feel daft carrying big bags of roast chicken when he was a pup.
What a wonderful post to read. I too have found Pippa’s books very useful as well as suggestions and support from people on here.
